Colworth Hill
« on: May 27, 2014, 08:21:00 pm »
I thought it was about time I uploaded a few pics of my layout in progress, Colworth Hill. This is my fist N-Gauge layout so go easy on me, I'm very please with the results so far. I've learnt a lot and there are a million things I'd do differently next time, but that's all part the fun.

It's DCC controlled by a Hornby E-Link system.

Instead of flooding the post with pics I've put them all in an album here (hope the link works ok)

A little bit of an update on the creation and destruction of Colworth Hill

Firstly the sheep field is nearly completed. Hedges are made from scrubbing pads rolled in scatter of various colours.

I've started to put some fencing round the station areas to stop people wandering off places they are not meant too. It's ratio GWR white fencing

Now the destruction part, after going to the NGF meet up in Yeovil (hey guys) I realised I had made some mistakes in my track plan. I was limiting my running quite badly, so some alterations needed to be made. A big chunk of the hill needed to be removed to make way for some turnouts and extra track.

Now with the bits in red to be added it gives me two complete lines through the station and also allows me to run a complete look on the inner track.

See Original and revised track plans below.

and now

A nice little layout, and the proposed modifications wil make it a lot better...

Nice to meet you and chat at the Meet on Saturday. You were lucky I didn't give you the recruiting spiel for your local MRC...  :)  :-X

Regarding the bottom left hand corner, how about removing the right hand point to the loop and replacing it with a left hand one as part of the curve?
Longer loop and longer Platform 3.

Guess it's too late, though

Yeah that's staying as it is now. I'll save that for the next layout :-)

So I've finally got round to laying the additional track that I wanted to do before winter hit us. Just got to do the electric now and start to rebuild the hill. I've also removde the set the sidings in the middle of the layout, it gives me more scenic space now and it all looks a lot less crowded.

So I now have an inner loop as well as the other one, and also a passing loop in the station.

I've also added a few trees and grass tufts to the corner I'd been doing the scenery one, its amazing what a difference they have made.
