Rod Marsh, Australian cricket legend, died of a heart attack, age 74.

Not only was he a great cricketer, he enjoyed his beer and was generally one of the lads.

A golden era of cricket.

Caught Marsh, bowled Lillee - 95 times.

My favourite photo of a Marsh stumping is Ian Botham....and one of my favourite cricket stories is the banter between Marsh and Botham about wife and children!

Ach - I saw him at Lords' Ground a couple of times at Ashes tests with the famous Lillee/Thomson strike force. What a great player.

I also believe he was one of the Aussies who put a tenner on England to win at 500-1 on Day 5 of that famous Headingly test match in 1981 when Bob Willis took 8 for 43. Usually I'd fact-check myself but that was a day I'll haver forget so no need for Google today.

RIP Rod Marsh, Hall-of-Fame wearer of the green cap and mustache.

Mark,

From memory the sledging or friendly but politically incorrect banter went something like this

Marsh: So how is your wife and my kids?
Botham: The wife is fine but the kids are retarded.

Im glad i grew up as a kid to see the great of australian cricket

Amended edition to Rip Rod Marsh and Shane Warne. 708 test wickets 145 tests, 293 wickets in 194 one day matches. Best haul November 1994 8 for 71 at brisbane. One of the great leg spin bowlers  . Can picture that ball all those years ago to Mike gatting at Old Trafford.

A very sad couple of days for cricket fans everywhere. Difficult to read that Warnie's last tweet was to pay tribute to Rod Marsh. RIP to both and thanks for all the memories

They're replaying all his dismissals now in TV. Another legend gone. Only 52 as well.  :(
