Just finished the layout plan for a mates layout using anyrail. had "fun" doing it. You know the type got a 5.5mtr by 6mtr room but want 10 by 10 worths of track/scenery. Did a big 6 platform terminus with 4 track oval(fast main & slow local tracks) plus a large loco depot with hidden storage road, plus a seperate branch line going from a suburban terminus through a country station to a port station.
Off to bed now hopefully no firecalls

Wondering whether to fix tracks that have warped in the heat in my attic, or if doing so will create gaps and electrical failures when the heatwave ends and everything shrinks back in to place again.

The heat is also causing some waterslide decals peel off, too. Have brought a few of my more vulnerable items downstairs where it's relatively cool.
Two rails good. Three better.

Do you spray varnish over the decals once they are on to seal them? That should stop them from peeling off.

I know nothing of this "spraying varnish" technique of which you speak, sir, but it sounds like a good solution.

Would I need any special equipment/skill?

One can of acrylic varnish, two or three light coats from about a foot away waiting 15-20 minutes inbetween coats, job jobbed

.........making grab handles for Woody's cousin. Boy is it a pain. After almost trashing the caboose twice I've given up for tonight and will try and finish it tomorrow. Then I only have Woody to do

Ahh well I did choose to do these caboose, so only myself to blame. ;D

Hi all,

Was doing more waterslide decals last night and was going to post about sealing them so thought stick uestions on here.

Where's the best place for acrylic varnish ie. model shop, hardware shop, paint shop etc and also would it leave a horrible shine in the sprayed area. Layout in loft with no natural light. Thought the light might catch the varnish and look awful!?

Ta for any help.

Cheers Weave.

Hi weave,

You can get matt varnish but where is the best place to buy it from, I am afraid I don't know although the quantity you would be using I would guess a small tin would last a long time  ;)

cheers John.

Following my efforts to build Scalescenes platforms I decided to build their medium station, having struggled with the platform ledges I have started with the store rooms. They really tested the modelling glasses and I'm really only posting this to show that we are not all fantastic modellers but can still enjoy ourselves, herewith

it don't look to bad on the layout but closeups can be cruel, goodness only knows what a hash I'll make of the rest of it but at least I can play trains on the track I've managed to lay.

All the best and happy modelling, I'm off for a Libation  :beers:

..........getting to grips with my new toy the Sprog 3 and JMRI software.

I must say once you get the hang of it, it really is a nice bit of kit. Being able to see all the CV values of your loco's decoder on the laptop screen and being able to adjust the values simply and easily by using the mouse pointer and keyboard sure makes a difference to the Dynamis system I have. Also using the inbuilt JMRI throttle on your screen to move the loco to immediately test your new configurations really helps too.

Now just got to work out what the panelpro part of the software is and what it is capable of doing.

And by the way, as we say in the computing world.....RTFM. In this case it is a must.

Hey MinZaPint - nowt wrong with that! And I like your platform edges too. I've always used those Peco plastic ones and find them quite tiresome... especially if you try and curve 'em! Hope the libation went down well!

And Joe 90... what the heck is RTFM? ???

Thanks Alex! As you say, if you don't ask, you'll never know! Nothing to do with model railways, but I have one of those weather stations out in the backyard that transmits data to a receiver in the house where it displays and logs it. Last week I had a data dropout for a few days, and thought: there it goes again (this is the second one I have bought - the first did the same thing). Anyway, I went and RTFM and got it working again! So perhaps the first unit still works after all, and if I'd RTFM I needn't have bought the new one!

Ah well... at least I'm getting the hang of the lingo!! :smiley-laughing:
