Hi

I am thinking of adding a rake of the older Graham Farish Pullman coaches to my collection

I am looking at the older wooden sided versions k type I think (you can tell I am no expert) so what did Farish produce

We're they only produced by Farish in Pool or were any produced in China by Bachmann Farish

The few I have seen had very poor printing on the sides is the normal or care some better than others,

What coaches were produced

Thanks

Back in the 70s I had a rake of the original models in brown & cream: full coaches and a brake. Plastic wheels and U-bend couplings.   Yes the printing was a bit fuzzy but I loved them at the time.

There was a run of them in blue (CIWL?), but they're very hard to come by.  I had one pass through my hands once many years ago, selling on for a friend.

The basic variants are a parlour and a brake parlour.

The brake is a 1928 type, the parlour is based on an earlier converted first class carriage which should be a 12 wheeler (but isn't because, you know, poole era farish generic designs).

Earlier models had very bad printing that's prone to fading quite badly. However by the end of their run there were some with alternative names (I believe three parlour variants) and better quality tamp printing. There were also revisions to the under frame over the years, but the bodies stayed the same.

Almost all were in the usual pullman brown and cream livery other than a vanishingly rare few in wagons lits blue livery. Rare enough I've never seen one.

Hi NGM,

I have always loved the luxury and old style charm of pullman coaches, and have a rake of Mk 1 pullmans.

Looking through E bay, as I often do, I saw this rake .....

They seem in good condition, and if the price doesn't get silly, seem good value.

All best wishes

PS. The sale has nothing to do with me ......just passing on the info

Here's a secret George ...... neither do I  :whisper:

However my friend Trisha does, trouble is she also runs a Pub, so any time she helps me bid for anything, rum and cider is involved and I end up paying more than I really should  :-[ ::) :-[

All best wishes

Hi @N_GaugeModeller

Bachmann did not produce the old Pullman cars in China alas.  It would have been good to see what they would have been like with improved assembly/finish.

As to why?  I am not sure.  Possibly the moulds were worn out as these coaches date back to the first years of Farish or may be they thought them too generic.

They look good on a layout and I am surprised Farish or Dapol have not bitten the bullet and produced modern K type Pullmans.  These Pullman cars would fit well with Dapol's collection of Pacific locomotives.

Ah well, I am sure the manufacturers know best.

Kind regards

Indeed, as good as the MetCam Mk1 pullmans are I would love a rake of 7 K types for the Golden Arrow.

I think a proper 7 car Golden Arrow special edition set with proper coach names and table lamps for £300 would sell a very good number.

Even a 3d print company that could give us perfect examples of the Brake and Parlour with correct bogies would be a very nice thing.

Maybe they will reach the drawing board somewhere sometime  :hmmm:

Hi @exmouthcraig

Well, Hornby keep producing them in OO so I assume they are popular.  I would even be happy with something akin to Hornby's Railroad Pullmans if well executed and the price came in around Dapol's Gresleys.

Kind regards
