tadpole

#15
Mine comes from the class 3R (201?) DEMUs which called at my local station, Farnborough North, on the Reading-Redhill line every hour.

These had a power car and intermediate trailer from a disbanded Hastings set, and the driving trailer from an EPB-style EMU. The latter was very obviously wider than the other slab-sided Hastings-gauge cars, hence a tadpole-like appearance. The driving trailer was locked out of use, and was mostly used for parcels. The two narrow cars contained a 500hp engine and about the same number of seats as a 121 bubble car in a 2+2 layout.

They were numbered 1201-1206, and it was not unusual to see at least five of the six in one day. It was a cause for great excitement when anything else turned up on a passenger service on this line (except for the 0902 to Reading which was a 33+three Mk1s and a van). When the units were withdrawn, the EPB driving trailers were attached to the remaining 2-car Hampshire (2H) sets, which they matched perfectly, to make more 3-car sets.
Two rails good. Three better.

porkie

haeckmaen

My surname is Hacker an my nickname at school and later was pronounced häckmän in German. On some mailing systems "hacker" is not allowed as an email adress be it my name or not so i switched to häckmän which is not to be spelt in English and therefore not on the net either. Instead of chosing "hackman" which would have been the correct pronounciation, too, I took the german transliteration "haeckmaen" and just kept on using and using it at several opportunities...

Tractor Matt

Mine is because I'm a Tractor Boy (Ipswich Town Football Club supporter for non footballers among us). I was a season ticket holder for along time until 2 seasons ago when I moved to Rugby, Warwickshire and found the price of petrol was far to high to travel home for every game. So with the new found time on my hand at weekends I turned back to the hobby of Model railways and enjoy it more now than when I was younger as I have slightly more money and don't have to save paper round money or wait for my Birthday or Christmas for a new rake of wagons.

Ooh and Matt is my name!

That's me Tractor Matt (oooh arrh)

papajoe

Mine came from my kids friends, there is usually "Big" in front of it. Hence BPJ
