One of our number has his layout on the cover of a bar billiards table which raised interest from several about this old pub game. So have you got a table near you? With 2 pals I go out to Spetisbury for Woodpecker Wednesday! Also being football fans we start off in Jo Corals placing our bets, 3 selections each for the total outlay of £6!

The Table

and being CAMRA members, the beer!

the one on the left is the landlords favourite and is a permanent fixture, the other 3 change frequently mainly featuring the smaller breweries and all kept in perfect condition. The board on the left shows the selection of ciders & perrys.

Closer to home I see that the Coventry Arms on the main A31 at Corfe Mullen has also got a table after many years, used to be a really good local but changes hands so frequently these days there's no continuity (PubCos again!)

Over to you  :beers:  David

When I was in my late teens we lived in Westbury (Wiltshire).
A pub called the Bell (Chalford) was literally at the bottom of our garden.
The bar was literally the size of a small sitting room but housed a bar billiard table.
The landlord (who was blind) had 3 Great Danes which took up most of the remaining space.
There was never anyone behind the bar - just a wooden tray (everyone helped themselves to drinks and paid by chucking the money into the tray).
It was an amazing pub, no one took advantage and there was never any trouble.
We also played bar billiards in the local league.
Great days.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

When I was doing my training at Evesham, our club had a bar billiards table. We played most nights and sank a few beers during the process.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

:hellosign: What a good selection of real ales . Hop Back for me please , although the Palmers is tempting. I haven't played bar billiards for years . maybe time for a come back.

I used to play at the Red Lion on the A5 at Wilnecote, Staffs,  until the pool table arrived  :(

I have never seen such a game, not even when I lived in the UK! They certainly don't have it here.

I've been known to enjoy the occasional game.

Sadly there aren't any tables left in Hull, but there are at least 4 that I know of in York...
It has now become something of a tradition that on Good Friday evening, after set-up for the York Model Railway Show, a number of us will go and knock over a few mushrooms  :-[ :o

Summer Lightning was on in my local at the weekend and I must admit I did test 4 or 5 pints, he has it in every 6 weeks or so I'd guess. All the others are good too (I've tested all 4) although the Copper is a bit weak for me. Like your pub ours has 4 pumps and they all change regularly. I sometimes think we're spoilt but I'm not complaining!  :beers:

I used to play at the Lumbertubs pub in Buttocks Booth, Northampton (yes, I kid you not) :D
Also played for the pub at table football in the local league.

We used to play table football every lunchtime in the pub. The only problem was that it used to take tanners and they were being phased out. This was in 1971/2. We used to go to the bank and change a couple of quid, until the bank stopped issuing them.
No spinning allowed!!

The Old Bulls Head in Ware had a table in a small room with just about enough room to use the cues. All went in the early 90's  including the room ! Happy days.

Some days its just not worth gnawing through the straps.

The rules stated no spinning and no scoring with the centre row of players. Hope it was a decent Lilliput table and not one of those hideous glass topped ones, Malc.

Played on both, Mick. Best one I ever had a go on was in 1966 during the World Cup. I was in a youth hostel on the shores of Lake Geneva.

There was a table at one time in a former pub near me....
At some point, we used to call the game Bar Bilious for reasons I need not go into  :-X
