I still have a long way to geo before they hit the paint shops, and I have two tenders to build, well one tender really

I have a question

My research is not going to well, did the LMS have any Black scots before the war, and if so what was the lining like? Similar to the old Black peco jubilee's?

Well to solve your dilemma, a few fairly easy hacks you can make it into a Lord Nelson and paint it dark olive. :whiteflag:

Funny you should say that, I have a mate who is into all things southern, but a 00 modeller, but he helps out operating the layout at shows, so I'm thinking about building him and N gauge Nelson, I have even got plans for the bogie tender

A number of ways to do a Nelson tender, first consideration is what period, pre 1938 they had a Urie/Maunsell pattern, some flared top some flush, post '38 they had a higher sided one. I've done the hack on a Peco Jub and working on a Farish Scot.

The earlier one can use a BHE N15 tender (supplied as a separate item) , only thing I don't like about it is the bogies are a bit crude. I usually fit a Minitrix or UM tender drive with extra wheels. The later version I made from Brass sheet.

One item the BHE kit does not have is the 3 Vacuum reservoir tanks behind the coal space.

One other version was used by those allocated to the Eastern or Central section which had 6 wheel "Ashford pattern) tenders due to the shorter turntables.

Paint dates are the one thing missing from the Irwell Press Royal Scots book, but I've never seen or read any reference to Black Scots (or Jubilees) before c1941... The black Jubilee was the 1946 livery.
