Friends, I am interested in the transpennines DMU, Dapol  ND114H-U, but cannot locate anywhere on the 'net a second or third car, does such exist?

The class 153 is only a single car unit, so there is no second car - though could be connected in mutiple with other 153s or DMUs.

Dapol does unpowered versions of the 153 and 156 which you could run together with the powered Transpennine unit.  I run a powered and unpowered Regional Railways 153 on my layout sometimes.

In real life the 153 could also run with Class 150 and 170 DMUs (possibly others too) but Dapol chose a different type of coupling from the Rapido type so a Dapol 153 won't couple to a Graham Farish 150.

Better than my case where the dummy is the one holding the controlling. 

I think the 153 is essentially half a 156 with some mods. So if you want a 3 car unit, it would be a 156 (or other DMU) plus a 153. A 2 car unit would be just a 156, I don't think I've ever seen 2 153's running together, but I sure someone will disabuse me of that notion pretty soon.

Yep 153s are normally singular beasts but have started to rejoin  with benefits for the public, if not the crew if small cabs are outerends.

the Dapol Shafenburg is a tomix product in all but name and is a clip fit into the chassis , it can be removed and NEM pockets fitted. Spares - no chance I have had 20 on order from Japan a while now.
The tomix coupler is great for attaching before running but "on stage uncoupling" is not possible. I am moving toward pocket fitting and hopefully by using the easy shunt have portion working. What will be good is a tomix head with NEM shank in several lengths so it can look right as they do look a bit like the real BSI in the gloom under the front of sprinters.

The 153s were created by splitting class 155s rather than 156s...
The 155s were built by Leyland and have a flatter bodyside profile and more smaller windows than the Metro Cammell built 156s.

Northern Rail's 153s most commonly work in multiple with 150s and 156s but do also work together - I've seen three of them in multiple a few times, and on one occasion a few years ago a 155+153+156 lash-up on a Hull-Sheffield service (normally worked by 158s either singly or in pairs)!

With increasing demand for train travel a lot of the routes where BR assumed a single 153 would be adequate now need something bigger.  Consequently there seems to be quite a bit of pairing up of 153s.  If they continue in service beyond 2020 they will have to meet new accessibility standards including wheelchair-accessible toilets which take up a large slice of the space in a single car.  There is some speculation that this will result in them being re-combined into 2-car units with one toilet per unit, but also suggestions that 153s have structural problems that may see them scrapped before 2020.

153s have a corrosion problem highlighted when vinyls removed ! Story has it Anglia ones were quite bad but this might also be aided to sea air in the area of operation.

I can see 153s being inserted into 156 units as these sets have UAT - Universal access toilets (TLA alert ! ) already and the small toilet would not need changing.

Given recent announcements for Arriva/ DB northern franchise with pacers out and new stock in a time of change and reforms possible. anything possible

When converted to 153's the units had a small driving cab on one end , with crews expected to stand , rail unions stepped in and this was a no no and a seat was installed , but there was little room for 'larger' drivers , and again seating was re-arranged to what 153's have to date .
153's commonly nicknamed Dog Box's .

Sincethe initial enquiry was concerning a second or third car and it appears that it was not usual to do so, I have changed my ideas!

I have taken a fancy to the Dapol First GW book-set instead!
