British gas visited today to do a routine check on the boiler. It turns out the Engineer was a model railway enthusiast and he spent about 15 mins checking the boiler and 45 mins talking about model railways and checking out my layout construction.
Small world - but not sure his next customer will be too impressed if he turns up late.

he could explain it as due to leaves on the line, or wrong type of rain / sleet / snow / sunshine 

Exactly the same thing happened to me a few years ago - the gas man spotted Lofthole; he turned out to be a member of the Tring club and invited me to show it at TadRail.

It is set to make a return appearance in 2016.

Yeah, it's funny the way the "general public" tend to scorn the likes of us, until they are suddenly confronted by a layout and suddenly become instantly impressed.

I had to do a job at the local bowling club yesterday, and needed my multimeter. The director I was doing the job for has known about my hobby for some time and has generally made fun of it.

Anyway he offered to run me home to get the meter,  I opened up the garage door to get the DMM, and of course the layout was in there. All I heard was, "Oh  " and I had to virtually drag him away to finish the job!

Never fails to amaze me....the general public scorn us for "playing with trains".
On the other hand, sitting in the pouring rain by a riverbank for most of a day, waiting for fish to commit "hara-kiri" , is considered perfectly sane. So is going for a walk across a chunk of grass whilst trying to hit a white plastic ball into a hole in the ground............

 

I enjoy most sports, but I must admit that hitting a ball and then walking around after it is not exactly my idea of fun!

Although most golf courses are indeed pretty places.

My parents were kids when this stuff was all the rage.

Michael Flanders and Donald Swann - did some highly amusing ones !

Some of my old work mates used to take the mickey out of me for my trains, until 1 of them mentioned he lost 3 hours browsing through the facebook group when he was on a sit and babysit the camera team doing a night shift.

What beats me is "Home & Shed" sticking fishing programmes on all the  time !  It ain't at home & it ain't in a garden shed !  And as they insist on calling this a "sport" - then it should be on the  sports channel & not on more interesting ones !  You can't have it both ways !
