I know this question may sound strange.
I am here wondering whether a class 43 could haul something else than Mk3 coaches.

Depends if you mean a Warship or an HST 

Normally HST power cars only haul mark 3s...even the ones used as DVTs (front buffer fitted). I think the yellow track recorder may have a mark 2 included(?). I have seen pictures of two power cars back-to-back hauling the West Country sleeper, but I believe that is the only exception.

It could certainly haul it, but not in passenger use

Yes, the track recording train initially included some Mark 2 coaches, whilst the Mark 3 coaches were modified

Sorry, not quite clear here. The power car itself was the DVT - there was an electric loco at the other end. They were initially employed in the ECML as a stop-gap whilst the mark 4 DVTs were completed.

I think the High Speed Track Recording Coach had the necessary jumper cables from new (early 70s, the last Mk2 built) to be formed in a HST set, but I don't know if it ever was.  That's the only exception to Mk3s that I can think of.

The power car was still working in multple, not a DVT (trailer)
It wasn't so much a lack of Mark 4 DVT, the Class 91 locos were delivered early (on-time), there was a complete lack of Mark 4 coaches

Yes, it had UIC cables installed
Similar to the Mark 3A sleepers, but use with HST Power Cars never went any further than the trials

Initially loco hauled and modified to use three phase electric, along with two other Mark 2 coaches

When the Class 91 was first used with HST trailers and power car, the power car was a DVT only supplying the trailers with power. The high mileage as a DVT caused problems with its traction motors, blackening from the brushes on the commutator. To prevent the problem the Power Car was used as additional traction power.

I'm fairly certain I saw the Mk2 track recording coach in HST formations on the Western. Certainly the Track Assessment Manager told me it was used in HST formations.

It wasn't permitted in use within a HST formation on the East Coast, had to be loco hauled

When the new measurement train mark 3s are in for exams/mainenance, there has been occasions where the mark 2s have been used between the powercars. This can also include the mark 1 pantograph coach if it is needed. Ow ever the set can't run as fast is normal and is reduced further with the mk1.

There was one occasion when a pair of Intercity liveried, buffer-fitted power cars, marshelled back to back, worked a Mk4 set and DVT to Edinburgh for gauging purposes. The electrification was still not quite ready for electric haulage, so HST to the rescue. I have also seen blue-grey power cars working test trains, including with APT vehicles.

FGW have also used power cars to rescue the sleeper several times - the Class 57s have woeful reliability.
