Yeah, I've got a soft spot for them, too. I actually have a lot of them, as back when I started, I actually preferred them over GF wagons because in the days of deep flanges, I didn't think the black plastic wheels on the Peco wagons looked as overscale and obtrusive as the GF metal ones. I like all the varied and colourful liveries, too.

You must remember that Peco were the pioneers in this field, and the design and tooling of these wagons is now old. The fact that they are still being bought is a tribute to their longevity,  methinks.

I quit like Peco's branded box vans. Wish they would do some more of the old brands that were about in the 30s and 40s... Pears soap, etc

Now, I often consider the kits but the painting and faff of finding transfers puts me off.
No help on the painting, but surely the NGS has sorted the transfer issue ?

Cutting edge of technology ! Mine's powered by a waterwheel, doesn't work in
a drought.

BTW I like Peco wagons, and also the kits, cheap and cheerful, like me....

Back up power supply is a hamster (if my cat hasn't eaten it :worried:)

Anyway..........when I first started out in N, Peco was really the only supplier of trucks and I've liked them ever since. Someday I'll get round to fitting their electro magnets and see if they work :uneasy: I'd like to see Peco add 'eras' to their trucks, though, for anyone daft enough not to have joined this forum and read some history about the vehicles. For example, how many of us bought their 4 wheel tank wagons only to discover they were phased out before the time our layouts were set in?

Ignoring all your other time-period or whatever waffle ya gannin on aboot, Mick, I experimented with the little metal strips on the Elsie Tanner couplings a long time ago.

Not impressed, As others have said, Peco wagons are extremely light (weight), and, well, fitting those little metal bits are a royal pain and can foul wagons on low radius curves... hence derailing them when they negotiated them before.

On a positive note, though, I can see possible applications apart from uncoupling for those below board Pecobelectromagnets.

Have ya been told today, NPN?

I asked about remote uncoupling with Farish Rapidos at the Gaugemaster shop when I first started out and they sold me some of those little metal strips...they didn't work! Thanks for posting the pic of the transferred wagons Rabbitaway, I'll have to see whether they exist for things like 16t, pre tops wagons and 12t vans as these could be assembled and sprayed en-masse, maybe making the saving over Farish ready-mades!

Agreed. I do like the Peco wagons, their pre-nationalisation vans being especially good IMO. Their CDAs are also nice, and a must for any Cornish layout!

The only more modern transfers Robbie does are for 35 ton tank wagons based on the Peco kit, he does not do general BR wagons only private owner stuff. You will need to get these from either Fox Transfers or NGS

I found looking at the cost of these general wagons there is not a saving as the RTR finished ones only sell for a £1 or so more than the kits.
