OK I know you need a ticket and a boarding card but is there anything else you'll need to get on a big bird?

I'm considering a day trip to haggis land on a BA 767, out to Edinburgh and return from Glasgow, but I don't want to turn up at Heathrow to be told "Sorry sir you cannot go as you haven't got an x".

I've heard that Ryanair want photo ID these days but is that standard for internal UK flights or them just being annoying?

Any help would be appreciated

I don't think you need anything for BA . ID thing for internal flights is
a nonsense.

AFAIK you need a passport even for internal flights in the UK

yes you need photo ID, preferably (believe it or not) a valid passport 

When I travelled to Scotland on business, that is what I was told to use. but I do believe you can use your Driving licence, if it's an internal flight, but a passport is better.

I know it's Flybe but the reqs are going to be similar to all domestic carriers.

On BA you are advised to carry ID, it's not a condition of  carriage.

This has been the case for many years - a friend was turned away from a flight sometime in the 90s and ended up driving to Glasgow. 

I'd rather take the train...

I know I live on the other side of the world, but after two recent UK visits I can see sense in that.... not the least being the train takes you right into the CBD and not miles away.

From the way it stands I'm grounded as I don't have any form of photo id.  Yep no passport and my driving licence dates from 1994 which is when I last moved house.

So with no chance of getting either sort of photo id over the weekend a trip to Scotland next week is not going to happen.

Why? How long have you got to do the whole trip? Can't you get a train? OK, I know you live in Dorset, but seriously, your train services are so much better than where I live and the distances so short...  I'd have me tickets already!

Ah yes I could go by train but the real reason was to have a couple of flights on a British Airways Boeing 767 before they're completely withdrawn.  Also I've never flown in a 767 so that was another plus to my plan.

Normally for a long distance trip the train wins every time as you can roll up at a station, pay cash for your ticket, and go.  All without the fear of Big Brother looking over your shoulder, which is the way the world seems to be going.

Thanks for that reply, Nigel. Being a plane fan as you are, I was worried my train post had possibly got you offside.... living here in Aus for 40 years, a bit of their outlook has rubbed off, methinks.

I do agree with your last comment, however.

Hope you get to Scotland eventually.... make it happen!

You may have longer to fly on a BA 767 than you might think. They are having problems with their new 787 dreamliners which means they are having to go back to Boeing for modifications. As a result Boeing have refurbished (on their dime) a few of the 767 interiors to cover for this. I was grumbling to one of the cabin crew about the reappearance of the 767 on a flight back to Philly a couple of weeks ago and got this from the pilot. Seems Philly and Calgary are the unlucky routes until they sort this out...
