The other week I was logged into my bank account and there was a message stating to watch out for calls asking to speak to the owner of the computer of the house, my wife in here wisdom put the phone down, I would like to inform people on the forum to be wary of these people using these tactics, thieves
will go down any avenue to steal your money.

Yeah, be on your guard at all times. Last week I received a phone call from the
far east , someone said to me I am from XYZ  company or suchlike and said
we can stop you getting annoying phone calls. I said even BT whose service I
use can't  do that  and hung up.

I had the same they told me my computer had a virus and it was sending out various messages they told me to check this that and the other I then told them I couldn't find anything wrong they then asked me for my credit card number and they would check and get rid of the virus they hung up when I asked them what a credit card was and that I hadn't got a computer I had an Ipad,I new it was a SCAM but I thought I'd just have a bit of fun and waste their time,By the way don't do this if you have to pay for your phone as you might find you are paying for the call.

Agrippa you can buy a call blocker box from ARGOS it does work I've got one It costs about £40 but well worth the money it comes pre programed with over 200  known numbers and then you just press a button on the box while talking to a scammer and then it blocks that number ,some callers from abroad have multiple lines but just press the button each time they call and they will stop I PROMISE it does work,

But for call blocking to work you need Caller Display (CLI) enabled which will cost £1.75 /month from BT
So I have to pay yet more dosh just to stop the low-life  :( oh no.
(Remind me later - I must get round to moving from BT !)

I bought an answer phone (at long last !), that stops them all except the dratted 'boiler woman', the rest ring off (automatically?) at the tone.

and , it is early days yet to tell , but I think we are getting less calls as a result, I am thinking there are lists of active numbers being sold round the low-life to save time on their auto-dialers.
I have seen it said in other fora that the more you answer the low-life the more calls you get.

I have Caller Display on my phone. Most of the cold callers show as 'Withheld Number' or International out of area' those calls just get ignored. Don't know how that would affect the device that Bob was on about. On very rare occasions does a cold call come through with a displayed number.

With the ARGOS call blocker you don't need BT caller ID Service We are using SKY for our phone Internet And TV my son pays for it as a package ,You just press the button on the box while talking to the annoying person on the phone,You can also block all international calls if you want to it stops the calls from India or Pakistan.

I find yelling and/swearing at them usually works too ;-)

Ok, but you are still paying for it, just that it is hidden !
The other answer is that Sky has nothing I want and would in any case cost more than BT !!

All the caller 'withheld' ones can be blocked, but guess what - that costs as well ( or is hidden in a package)
Guess what is really really stupid -> my local HealthC/DoctorsS withhold their number, so they would be blocked as well :(

Nah, answer phone is the answer and saves blood pressure raised in shouting  :) :)

When they ask to speak to a certain person you can always say that person is in prison because they beat up the last annoying caller and put them in hospital that sometimes works but the call blocker is the answer,

I have a whistle next to my landline phone as I've theoretically got a block on unsolicited calls and an unlisted number (although BT makes sure to sell everyone your number for about a week before it goes unlisted, so it's a bit pointless). If I get a spam call that doesn't allow me to hang up immediately, they get the whistle. Supposedly hurts a bit on headphones.

I have no moral qualms with doing this. They *know* they're calling illegally and that I didn't give them my number, so a slight bit of earache is the least they deserve.

That's really funny    :claphappy:  but I don't think it would work in the UK they would hang up anyway but that won't stop them calling again,

Just phoned for the second time, first it was an Indian woman and this time it was an American woman, bloody fuming these people need linching from a lamppost and flogged until there vocal chords drop out.
