When they ask to speak to a certain person you can always say that person is in prison because they beat up the last annoying caller and put them in hospital that sometimes works but the call blocker is the answer,

Not far from being wrong there, All these gimps who do these pesky phone calls or hack into people private affairs, bank accounts etc, Take them up the fields and give them hell with a Base Ball bat. :D

I find yelling and/swearing at them usually works too ;-)

I politely told the person that I didn't have a computer, 2 seconds later I was listening to the dial tone.

Start off by telling them that all incoming phone calls are recorded to aid with staff training. ....Police training

I usually speak to them and just ask if I had asked them to call and to take my name off their database to prevent me reporting them for breach of the Data protection laws.

They usually bid me a nice day and the calls stop for months

Seeing the previous discussion about phone fraudsters etc , the heading reminded me of a true story.

A few years ago a friend of mine worked in this discount carpet warehouse General George, don't
know if still on the go. One day a woman came in and said a carpet they'd delivered had a flaw .
She wasn't very pleased about it and wanted to speak  to "The General". My friend said The General
was a busy man , but a customer service rep would call round to see her and she left quite happily.

I usually say in a large stage whisper something along the lines of....

"Hey Sarge, bloke on the phone says we've got trouble with the PC. shall I get his number so you can call him back ?"

Usually results in silence.

Best response I ever saw was

"No I'm terribly sorry, he committed suicide after someone phoned him up and tricked him into getting his computer hacked" (hangs up)
