If Scotland votes for independence this may be the last year for a long time that we may have a "British" winner?

OK, I'll fess up and state I usually don't have a good word to say about the French side but they played out of their skins last night and were runaway winners against Switzerland, despite the Swiss being much higher in the world rankings than France.
Super performance :claphappy:

Trust the French! I was working on a Duchess last night in the spare room (a loco that is - just in case any of you thought I was that well connected!) with the volume turned up for the French-Swiss game. Needless to say I was in and out if the living room like someone with their pants on fire!

My big concern is the thought of all those poor frogs going around in wheelchairs :(

Naah! Not the Citroen Dustbin! The French gave us the Citroen Traction Avant...a beautiful car!

Not so beautiful has been England's performance this time around. Cannot fault Roy for his squad selection - he was right to pick younger players, and he would have been pilloried either way with Rooney, it is just many of our brightest talents are too inexperienced.  I would be surprised if Gerrard continued - at least as captain, but really as an England international - but the jury is out on Rooney.

Perhaps Hodgeson needs to be brave and follow the lead of Brendan Rogers with Andy Carroll. Carroll did not suit the Liverpool team Rogers was trying to build, so he was shipped out. Rooney has been looking like a square peg in a round hole (goal notwithstanding). Perhaps Hodgeson should stop trying to square off the edges and look for alternative pegs...

Still, what this means is that I can watch the rest of the cup without worrying about who is going to win. I should be following the Dutch, on account of Mrs Dreyfus' origins - but cannot really bring myself to do so!

More dodgy reffing! Iran should have gotten a penalty against the Argies. Cannot help but think if it was at the other end of the pitch then the decision would have been different.

Doubt that ref will be going far in the tournament. Then again, at this rate, there won't be many refs suitable to ref the knock-out stages!

Next kommt ze Germans!

Epic fight put up by Iran, and they should have won.
Maybe Hodgson should attend some of the training sessions of these so called 'lesser' teams as he might find out what makes them run and run with a great pride to be there representing their country - unlike our sorry shower.
Well done, Iran

Yup - what is it with our lot? They always just seem like they can't be bothered. I get the feeling they wouldn't even get up off the sofa at home and make their own tea! It would certainly require more effort than they showed the other night!
