I am thinking about buying a new Dapol Hall Class loco but I'm a bit confused as to which ones are the latest releases.  According to the Dapol website they are only listing Lanelay Hall 2S-010-000 and Pendeford Hall 2S-010-001 however, some retailers are listing these two plus Cranmore Hall 2S-010-002 and Priory Hall 2S-010-003, the latter two do not appear on Dapol's website so are they older models?

Pendeford Hall and Lanelay Hall were released a few months ago, Cranmore Hall and Priory Hall have only just been released, have Priory Hall on its way to me at the moment, should be here today with any luck.

All of Dapol newer stock used their new coding system which looks like 2S-010 etc the old system had codes like ND 1234 etc.  You can tell using the new system the order of the models being released as each on increases incrementally, so one ending in 004 is newer than 002 etc.

Hope this helps, all my 3 Halls run perfectly (1 orig Dapol, 2 newer with black wheels) and I hope Priory Hall will be the same.

Many thanks for that, thinking about going for Lanelay Hall as the GWR black/gold lining looks much better than the red/gold on the other versions (at least it looks better in the small photos available on-line!), it will also suit my layout better.

Might also convert one to run as Raveningham Hall, as on the West Somerset Railway, I understand that there was an earlier version of Raveningham Hall, but I would really like to have one of the latest releases as they are reported to be better than the older versions?

Raveningham Hall was a BachFar release (all my BachFar Halls now rest in the cupboard) whilst the more recent ones have been by Dapol and are much more detailed with beautiful slow running plus the Dapol ones are DCC ready.

There was an old version of Raveningham Hall made by Graham Farish a long time ago. The Farish Hall was crude and dimensionally inaccurate, even by the generous standards of the time. Also it was produced while Farish were still based in Poole so the livery is not as fine as those on modern models by either Dapol or Farish. Here is what it looks like.



By comparison, the Dapol model is up to date with best modelling practice and looks far better. Etched nameplates for Raveningham Hall are available from ModelMaster Decals so an identity transplant is an option.



The one place where the Farish model scores over the Dapol one is that it correctly depicts a Hawksworth Modified Hall whereas the Dapol model is an original Collett build loco which is not correct for Raveningham Hall.

You pays your money, you takes your choice.

Just picked up my Lanelay Hall from Rails of Sheffield.

As usual great service, they took it out of the box and checked it over before giving it a test run for me before purchase.  I have to say it was surprisingly quiet and ran very smoothly at slow speeds.  Very pleased.  Now hoping it continues to perform well in the future.

Hope you enjoy your new Hall DWS, being so close to Hatton's is a big bonus, my Priory Hall arrived today and is now running in on my test track, hopefully the sound decoder will arrive in a day of two.

On the subject of sound...

Has anyone used the Train-Tech SFX10 Motion Sensor Sound units in N Gauge locos?  I have been looking at their website and was wondering if this unit would fit in the Dapol Lanelay Hall anywhere?  If not, maybe the way to go is to install one in a coach behind the engine?

Any suggestions?

I'm running DC by the way.

There is a Dapol Raveningham Hall listed on Osborn's Models' website as an exclusive to them. I don't know that it's ever been produced though as the price shows £0.00 and the rest of the line of text kind of implies that it hasn't yet.

I spotted that and have sent Osborn's an email to enquire about it, not had an answer yet.

Osbourn's did a special run of 5900 Hinderton Hall a couple of years back, it's nice runner too with the later blackened wheels, highly recommended.

I think the placeholder on Osbourns website for Raveningham Hall is there so that if you want one you can e-mail Michael to show your interest - If he gets enough takers I guess he'll commission Dapol to do a run.

Might be quite pricey to commission a Modified Hall as it would be a new tooling for at least some of the components.

I vaguely recall that when the Dapol Hall was first announced, the initial batch of numbers were in later 69xx range which the Modified Halls used and people assumed that is what would be produced. This was then changed to the original Collett version.

Perhaps Raveningham Hall was initially requested by Osborn's when they were expecting a modified Hall. Once the number was cleared up, perhaps Motram Hall was the one eventually delivered? Just speculation on my part.

Motram Hall is nice but like the original batch of Halls, it has incorrect BR-style cabside lining. The newer runs are all correct in this regard and much better.
