I have been waiting for quite a while now for a Pannier that has a 6 pin socket, and Dapol have given the release period for the Pannier BR 9741, on the site it stated on the 12/12/13 that this model would be released just in time for Christmas, I cannot wait.

No surprises really, I've had some teaks and a Pannier on pre-order, hoped to get them for Christmas but usual promises, I'd rather they hadn't posted anything…

What's that old maxim "Over promise and under deliver" Oh no that's the wrong way round :unimpressed:

Hattons pre-owned listing shows a used Dapol 57xx panier tank in GWR green livery for £60. Don't understand how but I have just checked and it's there still now. Page 4 sorted by stock number order.

There it is! 6739 for £60 - bargain.

I've got 8762 on pre-order with them, already got 6739 - nice runner too.

Thanks for pointing it out, maybe one of the other members will bag it.

Didn't you do well. I bought my black one for £59 - and now all three colours are £61 each to pre-order but not available in stock.

Or you can have a mint secondhand GWR item which probably comes with a shop guarantee and which must be all of a few days old for £60 if you don't want an undefined wait.

The absolute used bargains are no doubt about £49 each and come from ArthurDaleyLocos.com by contrast.

Having now owned (and dismantled) the Dapol pannier, I'd wait rather than risk a used one. Ok, it might be mint and never used, but equally, the small can motors have a relatively short lifespan, and appear to be bonded into to tanks (i.e. replacement does not look like childsplay). I'd stick with new on these as a result so it's done zero hours and has complete guarantee. Especially given the price - £60 is no bargain for a secondhand loco IMHO (I'd expect to get a Dapol A3 pacific secondhand for that).

I should say that this is in contrast to other Dapol motors - their larger open frame motor is of no concern as brushes are interchangable and there's no reason they shouldn't last for much longer. The cans are a different story.

Dapol seem to have missed a trick here and aren't quite covering the demand - the 57xx is a very popular model - the Farish ones sell for good money still and have had countless batches made both in Poole days and later by Bachmann.

Cheers,
Alan

I'm not a fan of used products myself. But the OP asked about green 57xxs and many forum members risk far greater sums than £60 on much older used locos. Hattons providing the choice to buy almost new now has to be worth recounting in the context of this thread. The reader then has a choice.
