Dapol seem to have missed a trick here and aren't quite covering the demand - the 57xx is a very popular model - the Farish ones sell for good money still and have had countless batches made both in Poole days and later by Bachmann.

Agreed, other poplar locos like Mallard and Flying Scotsman sold out in no time at all.

Having now owned (and dismantled) the Dapol pannier, I'd wait rather than risk a used one. Ok, it might be mint and never used, but equally, the small can motors have a relatively short lifespan, and appear to be bonded into to tanks (i.e. replacement does not look like childsplay). [/quote]

Alan, I have now had to remove a motor (well thought I had to) from a 57xx and it turns out not to be as hard as we thought (didn't think to take pictures but will next time). the weight fitted to the tank behind the motor has a small amount of glue at the back end, there is a groove on each side of the weight where the wires run, I used a small screwdriver to gently lever the weight off (not much force needed no damage done) once the bond is broken slide the weight out the back followed by the motor and bracket assembly. there was no glue on the motor mounting bracket as it is a neat fit in the tank and held in place by the weight.

Poor description I know, I'll take pictures next time.

Oh, the reason I thought I had to remove it ended up being a blown decoder (keeps reading motor short, but the short is on the decoder some where) and an impatient Don who didn't test things before assuming it was the motor. Story for another day.

I'm not a fan of used products myself. But the OP asked about green 57xxs and many forum members risk far greater sums than £60 on much older used locos. Hattons providing the choice to buy almost new now has to be worth recounting in the context of this thread. The reader then has a choice.

Someone seems to have taken the choice. It's sold.

I have bought this Pannier from a model shop, and spoke to the owner who stated if I do what it states on keeping it maintained he will gladly take it back if anything goes wrong with the loco within the 12 months of purchase, reminding me to keep my receipt in a safe place.

At the moment I am running it in at half speed in which it sounded a bit rough but after running for 5 minutes it has quietened down must be the light lubrication that has done that.

Really pleased by the finish on this loco and it certainly does look like a well made model, lets hope this is a good one.
