For some reason as I rattled off the keys on my keyboard today I must have mistyped www.sandjmodels.co.uk and to my surprise this page appeared on my screen!    http://s480747971.websitehome.co.uk/

I am positive that I typed "SAN" into the address but like everyone else's PC my computer will also frequently say"No" So I guess it must have only printed djmodels.co.uk in the address bar!

Although I hate ruining surprises, surely the guy should have gone public with his site after his planned announcement at TINGS, instead of risking someone like me stumbling across it!

Yes I am getting all password requests, but that may be because the site is not yet fully finished?

I am very interested to see what emerges from this venture. I can't help but notice the reference to a "step change in quality" not "being possible at my previous employer".

I don't want to start a debate on this, I am not in the realm of being controversial, but I personally am more than happy with all of my purchases from his "previous employer". Therefore, whatever he comes up with that is better than this will get my total interest.

However, if he goes down the pricing route of another well known specialist that is "winding down", I won't be able to afford his work, so its all a bit academic then!

He obviously fell out with Dapol with such a snipe like that. I too am satisfied with Dapol especially their recent efforts.

If Mr Jones has entered the Model Railway Stage then good luck to him, however if his products or services turn out to be not as promised then expect the same criticism as Dap's and GraFar have received in tbe past.

And in four sentences Owl summaries my views exactly.

That's a brave man. Obviously he has industry contacts, product knowledge and knows what the customer wants...  so I'm sure we will all benefit at the end of the day if he pulls this off

Dave does talk of 00 and 0 as well as N  - so I guess unlike Wayne's fiNtrack, he won't be filling any gaps in the N gauge market in particular - more likely looking at items that span the gauges.

But then again this is all my conjecture ...

Yes good points made Southernboy, regarding his industry contacts I wonder if Dapol will change their manufacturers.

After all from what I could gather from his job vacancy, the company will require the successful candidate to fly out and do business with the Chinese. No doubt Dave has built up quite a rapport with these people.

If I was the director of Dapol I would be seriously stroking my chin right now!

Can't see why they'd do that if they even have a single manufacturer they use rather than several for that matter. Most of the moulding companies out there have large numbers of clients.

I think the biggest question is how well Dapol will cope without Dave. What it means for the forthcoming unfinished models, and the announced but noticably absent models (Maunsells, Pacer etc)

No one is irreplaceable... there is always someone else although it might mean a different approach/direction.
