Well,I never watched a minute of this years London Bat and Ball Fourteen Days, not interested in it at all.But the clamour from the press, media and bat and ball fans for him to get a Knighthood is growing, and for what?

He didn't do anything heroic, found a cure for killer diseases or solved world peace. He just hit a ball over a net hard enough for the bloke on the other side to miss. Its his job,he gets paid stupid money to do it so that alone should be all that matters.

As a motorsports fan myself, when was the last English or British motorracing driver given a Knighthood?

I think the last one may have been Sir Jackie Stewart.Barry Sheene didn't get one,nor did James Hunt.Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill also haven't got one yet and neither has Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button. My all time hero,Carl Fogharty, once the most successful British motorcycle racer has been left out as have Neil Hodgson and James Toseland,so why do people think that Andrew Murray(can't bare to call him Andy) get one.He might be entitled to BBC Sportspersonality of the year, provuding no one else does a better job at their playing games job but certainly not a Knighthood.

Sorry,my opinion thats all.

You have to have a level playing field though Pete (excuse the pun)  I don't believe any sportsman who earns the vast fortunes that are currently paid out should be given honours at all.
There are far more deserving people in our communities that should be recognised, the men and women of our emergency services, our Armed Forces, the tens of thousands of voluntary workers that make good things happen for those who otherwise would be excluded.  But awarding people who earn more in a day what I earn in a year for playing sport, any sport, is just pandering to this tacky and tasteless 'celebrity' culture that we currently endure.

Congratulations to Andy on his victory, I believe he and Djokovic will dominate world tennis for the next few years and he will become one of Britains most celebrated sportsmen, he is a fairly grounded person anyway but I hope he remains one of the common people.

I'm with both of you on this,I think that anyone who is paid and usually paid very well to boot should be given a Knighthood.
Just because they've been on TV which is after all supposed to be entertainment it's not very often they actually do anything to earn a Knighthood, singing and dancing should no way be one of the qualities required either.

I agree with the three of you on this. Never been one for the honours system, unless it is to recognise someone who really has worked anonymously for years for their pittance, and even then what does just adding Sir do for these people.

Now please dont think in turning this political but I only think the media is calling for a knighthood because of the vote next year!

@Lawrence - you might get your hope of him remaining grounded as he has already tried to move the talk away from Knighthoods, well he did on last nights local news here anyway

According to one actor it means that while he didn't get paid any more all the hotel porters thought he did and expected much larger tips  :D

I quite agree, honours should be for public service. (nearly made an embarrassing typo there)
