Thanks again

Very helpful, great tip and inspirational.

I'm currently part way through installing a scissor crossing - having soldered a multitude of droppers to is, as I don't want to rely on blade contact.

Refurbishing buildings from previous layouts that have been chucked"stored" in boxes, replacing chimneys, and general touching up scratches etc.

Finally getting somewhere with the third rail on Brickmakers Lane. The first 4 500mm lengths are now in, using the wonderful, if bloody small (but perfectly formed), chairs from @RBTKraisee, installed in holes drilled via a (superb) jig by @Mr Sprue, and using 30 odd year old 2mm Association code 40 flatbottom rail, whose moment in the sun has finally come. Only 76 more pieces to go, at least I'm 5% of the way there....

Really happy to see those going in so nicely Dave!

Well WL55 is finally working... I managed to destroy the yellow aspect somehow, so after lunch today I replaced it (just the yellow) aspect! But it looks the part with a ladder. Image above was using a tablet (not bad?).

Today I have been refurbishing quite a few Metcalf card buildings built by me from modded kits to be low relief 1930s dock and industrial.

Despite most being boxed in store for "a while", even the ones out had not generally faded but all had mostly lost the red tint in their brickwork, so were incorrect for the area and did not remotely match the backscenes I now want to pair them to. (They'd always been too yellow based, anyway)

SO, a much watered down mix of burnt umber and red acrylic was sort of carefully but speedily applied over the brickwork avoiding the many windows. This had the unplanned advantage of drying matt, leaving the blacked out windows shiny..... improving the realism in one go, when I'd thought I might have to use matt varnish......result!

Oh, and what did I mean by "a while" ago?

Well I date my models internally somewhere out of sight.

These were dated 1994 and 1995.

Today I've been 'improving' a Farish 373-076 Class 25/3... They look much better with wire cab door handrails. The photo is really cruel, though - you can see the rails are slightly different lengths! The wire is 0.23mm diam piano wire and the holes are 0.3mm diam. A length of about 4mm inside the body is simply folded flat against the inside of the body.

Adding ladders and brake wheels to a recently scratchbuilt Cartic-4. Tomorrow it might get some numbers! (Photo using a well-held tablet...)

I elected to omit the upper deck 'chains' as in photos of these wagons they're almost invisible anyway. The 'posts' however are ever so fragile and are very easily broken off!
For the technically-minded, I used Lima Freightliner bogies with Evemodel (China) 5.5mm diam wheels - and they run a treat!

Excellent work kev. Where did you find the ladders please?

Just need a 47 to haul them. Looking at what's available from Ben and others you very much have saved yourself some funds and enjoyed construction of the Cartics. Hope your well

The Q

I'm sitting in the Radar museum https://www.radarmuseum.co.uk/ making models of radars, which will go on one of my layouts..

in particular today, this actual radar.

Sadly after a big school visit this morning, it's been rather quiet today so not many visitors to show round... more time for modelling.

Hi Chris - thanks for your comments - the ladders are brass (Langley ones I've had for donkeys) - just cut to length & superglued on. There is a Class 47 (1957) just out of shot on the left!
They did get their numbers today also the MAT signs were fitted  -should get a video soon...
cheers
Kev E.

Must add the MAT livery was one of the best prior to Silcock Express.  Be honest Kev, I do like the improved 25 /3 with your piano wire handles . Yes I did spot the 47

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!
