securing vehicles to wagons

did a search on the forum but didn't find anything, so I wondered if anyone could answer any or even all of these questions.

I'm looking for answers relevant to the late 80s, and military vehicles.

1. to secure FV432 type vehicles onto flats, would chains/tensioners or straps/ratchets be used in the late 80s ?

2. am I right to assume whichever was used would be crossed, ie left hand lashing point on vehicle to securing point on the opposite side of the flat, and vice versa ?

3. would new armoured vehicles be shipped from depots to units in camouflage, or in base green with the disruptive pattern being applied by the units ?

many thanks for that.

as the first link is for warrior, I guess that straps were not considered a safe replacement for chains, so chains it is.

also interesting that although the chains cross, the securing points are quite near the wagon centre line, where I would have expected at the side.

will check the second link when I get off work, the pc police block anything that is vaguely social networking, which is what this is coming up as.

mind you, I've had Ngaugesociety block before now, for sexual content

Don't forget that different vehicles also had to have different ways of being secured.  The Warriors need to be on warwell's in the UK, with chains and also they must sit in a cradle.  This stops them hitting any station platforms!  Also, they must be put on backwards on any trains, so the turret doesn't hit the station canopy's!

Other vehicles like Scorpions, Scimitars etc should have chocks under the wheels.  These can have chains or strops.

As for paint - it completely depends who makes the vehicle and what the contract is.  Back in the 80's a lot of vehicles would have had the black painted on by hand if needed.

looking at a couple of 432s, and maybe a couple of MKs on wagons, but thought I'd do the MKs as RAF with the yellow airfield markings on the sides.
