Dapol's website (such as it is) has just added a set of instructions for their impending conversion kits for non-NEM rolling stock.

It seems to assume the original coupler pocket will be retained: if so that's a bit of a problem for me as I've chucked/cut out most of the original pockets, especially on kit-built stock. Most of my non-NEM stock just has a flush floor at present, devoid of any evidence of a coupler pocket. :uneasy:

Anyone got any suggestions?

No you cut the coupling pocket off, as you need a flat surface to glue the new too!

i've been trying to get an answer from Dapol on what we'll have to do to boggie based stock, ie coaches etc, because if you cut the pocket off the boggie then there is nothing left to glue the new one to, or do we cut off the pocket from the boggie and figure out some sort of body mount instead?!

anyone know when these will be available?????

You will need the coupling on the bogie, or to fit a sprung centering NEM mount. I suspect the Dapol conversion kit isn't going to be that much use on such stock, at least not on its own.

Fleischmann do a very nice close coupler kit although its not designed to accept a NEM pocket. Nothing some violence and araldite can't cure I would think.

Or you can make your own - the drawings and calculations are in the MOROP standards documents which are available in French or German and mostly diagram anyway.

Taken from a post on RMWeb.

However it should fit most stock (even if you have to recalibrate it slightly for longer or shorter arm couplers etc) for both freight and coach, as long as you use them body mounted, as we havnt designed these to be bogie mounted at all.
So the simple answer is that these are no good for bogie stock.

This is slight disappointing and I am not quite sure where it leaves my plans to switch over to these couplings. I have a fair amount of coaching stock which does not have NEM pockets (all Dapol coincidentally).

I know Dapol can supply replacement bogies for some stock. I may have to get some new GWR collett bogies to fit the ends of my rakes (not worried about inter-coach coupling as I don't plan on changing rakes much). This is a nuisance but not a deal-breaker. However it might be a real problem for things like B-sets. AFAIK, an NEM version of these bogies has never been produced.

EDIT - Or perhaps I am reading the above too negatively. Perhaps it means the conversion will work for bogie stock by removing the coupling from the bogie and mounting the new pocket on the body.

Well, that's just not good enough. Some fount of all knowledge you are!   ;)

Presumably where buffers are fitted on coaches i.e. all of mine, I'll have to use the longer fittings to avoid buffer lock. TBH I only intend to use these couplings on freight stock but I guess the same applies ??? :dunce:

I don't think it'll be too hard to mount them in bogies with suitable packing. I made some 3D printed adapters for bogie mounts on Dapol Gresley. I should try them on other things I guess. There is certainly room and clearance in the right places to bogie mount them.

And here the direct link to the mechanism

But the shop is only in german.

Yep, these simply clip fit in place on their bogies. It probably wouldn't take much to fit them to other bogies - just a little ingenious adaption and jiggling. As people will probably only want them on the outer ends of coaching/other bogie stock rakes it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

The other thing is to wait and see what the Dapol conversion kit consists of. Has anyone seen it or has any information as to when it will be available?
