Just had a random thought about doing a forum steam railtour?

Bythat i mean, different members can loan out a locomotive to other members. I.e, i could lend my sir nigel gresley in br blue to tank (just using you as an example) for him to run on his layout, take some photos/videos and put inthe thread.

So simiar to the coach but allows all embers to get involved with other members etc etc.

Those who would be intrested in sending their locos out, their names would be listed with locos listed.

Just an idea not sure what others think. Also gives you a chance to see your locos on orher ayouts.

Hmmm ... not sure I'd be happy on this, to be honest ...

Cost of a coach - £20 ?  Cost of a loco ... ...  ???

Hate to put a downer on this ...

Just throwing the idea out there so no worries

I like the idea.  I think it would only be open to members who had a lot of posts so that we can judge their character.  No offence to new members! ;)  Also, I think only registered post should be used.

I think if you lent me your A4 and I did something to it (by mistake of course), I'd be absolutely mortified. It also wouldn't be the best way to get involved with other members
With locos you would also have the limitations of DC/DCC - something that wouldn't occur with a piece of rolling stock.
Nice thought, but I'm not sure it's really workable :-\

Cool idea. Similar to a recent experience I had. My brother celebrated his ten year wedding anniversary at the Great Central Railway, by hiring a buffet observation car and hosting the family whilst traveling in style.

If there was enough interest, I would like to help organize something like this. I have met many members of this great forum and it's good to have new friends due to this little corner of the WWW.

Regarding the model steam railtour, I would be happy to host some on my new layout

I like that idea a lot!  Sadly, I think that I could only get to the Bluebell Railway at the moment due to commitments at home......which would isolate a lot of members and would be unfair to be 'down sarf'.  I can highly recommend the food though!!!! :)

Trying to think as centrally as I can so we can get the max number of attendees, I can only suggest the Didcot Centre ???

For this forum, centrally may mean Japan
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

This would probably work best with a cheap loco - e.g. an older model 0-6-0 tank or Farish GP tank etc.

These are generally worth £20-30 so not much more than a coach.

Cheers,
