Just wondered if we have any serving or ex rock apes or snowdrops on the forum.

SWMBO has just treated me to the new Airfix Afghanistan 1:48 sets of troops and the landrover snatch plus troops, and I fancy doing them as a diorama of a RAF Regt patrol RVing with a RAFP team.

what I am not sure of is whether the kit is the same for the RAF as the Army, as my days are far in the past.

anyone who can help with any gen please ?

cheers

Just wondering ????
What's a Rock Ape or a Snowdrop please ??
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

I'm not a Rock or a snowdrop but have served with both in Afghan. Kit generally same as our Army blokes aside from the usual arm flashes / RAF Reg mudguards etc.

Rock ape      is  RAF  slang  for RAF Regiment Personel
Snowdrop    is RAF slang  for  RAF  police

Rock Ape = member of RAF Regt. There are a number of explanations - google and take your pick!

Snowdrop = member of RAF Police ( they wear white caps!)

Hi David,

many thanks for that.

I had noticed that the RAFP now seemed to have just the black on red MP flash rather than the brassard we used to wear.

so the uniform and kit is the same, and I presume the regt would wear their shoulder titles, and ranks would be the RAF style ie props etc.

I was amazed when she gave me them, didn't know she knew how to get onto the Hattons site  :smiley-laughing:

just hope she didn't hack my account, if she ever sees my wish list I'll be deep in the brown smelly stuff.

cheers
