peco surface mounted point motor mod.

hi all.
i model in N gauge and am using pl-11 points motors.i have a couple of instances where i can't position the motor next to the point.at a junction where the point is on a centre track etc.i have an idea of using some kind of extention rod going under the outside track to reach the inner point going through a piece of electrical earth sheathing so as not to be affected by the ballasting.does anybody have any experience of a similar situation or any ideas whether this will work or not.any alternative ideas would be welcomed.i do have some under layout point motors but these will now be impossible to retro fit.it was always my intention to use surface mount anyway.

I've not done it with surface mounted points but in places were you just can't get a point in I use a bit of brass tube and a piece of springy wire with loops either end to connect the point motor rod and the point tie bar, works fine.

that begs another question,what wire to use.i was thinking something like welding rod going through the hole in the tiebar or possibly a flat piece of something going over the lug.

I bought my rod from the local modelling shop in Fuengirola, I've got 2 types, one is brass and the other is springy (which I think is used in model aircraft).  Either seems to work fine although you have to make sure the brass tube doesn't wiggle about, Ieither  just glue it in position or use a couple of track pins to lock in place.  You need rod that is easily bent that's why I used what I did.

Thats it  :'( Im moving . I believe there is a "local" shop somewhere up the coast from here but by the time I could get there it would be closed for lunch !

Last time I bought any was in the UK and had to curve it gently amongst Mrs H new clothes for the trip back. Luckily they were in the suitcase at the time.

i am going to try some copper earth cable from twin and earth,the solid wire that runs down the centre.i know it fits the point,i just hope it works out long term as copper can go brittle over time.just need to order some more point motors.
