Just wondering what your favourite London underground stock is. Mine is the 1938 stock, closely followed by the Q and R stock family. Some of the newer stock looks quite reasonable but is spoilt by the externally hung doors I think!

silly moo

Pannier tank engines, I like them in the maroon livery and have one of the Dapol ones on order.

I don't really know much about Underground stock, but would like to learn more. Are there any websites or forums where I can get a good introduction to the subject?

I do know I like the early gate stock, and the 1938 units.

1938 stock is cute and has lots of character, particularly given you can still travel on it on the IoW (or LU museum train).

Having said which modern tube stock is pretty cool especially all the 95 stock (and variants).

S stock looks nice, but shame about the much reduced seating compared to A stock.

Hello Southernboy,

Not sure about any websites but Capitol Transport publish some good, reasonably priced books on different types of underground stock through the years.

I went to and from school on the 1938 stock (not in 1938). Going north in the afternoons, 4 car trains would come through on the Charing Cross branch, the other 3 cars coming via Bank. They'd then be reunited at Edgware for the train south.

Although not technically "Underground stock" the bone shaking Bullied cars on the old Waterloo & City line were worth every "priv penny" (BR staff joke) so are top of my list.
Some days its just not worth gnawing through the straps.
