Simon Dawson has just posted a fantastic range of Metropolitan Railway Goods Stock on his Rue D'Etropal site. Finally something for the LT panniers to play with!

Simon Dawson (Rue D'Etropal/Recreation21) produces a fantastic range of 3D prints for N gauge modellers.  I have used many of his prints including NER electrics, LNER Class A5 and K1 locomotives, and NER P4 and P7 hoppers. 

One thing to be aware of (based on my experience with the NER hoppers) is that standard N gauge wheelsets will NOT fit his 3D prints.  The overall length of these axles is too large.

I recently completed one of Simon's NER P7 hoppers.  I modified both the 3D print and a Peco 10ft. underframe kit, but it was a struggle.  See the thread here:

Another, possibly more elegant, method to fit wheels to these prints was documented by @thebrighton in the following thread:

Gareth used parts available from the 2mm Scale Association.  To use his methodology the parts needed are:

1) 3-hole disc wheels, N gauge profile (part no. 2-027). Spoked wheels to N gauge profile are not available.

2) W Irons, either RCH ones (part no. 2-312) or BR ones (part no. 2-313).  These are hidden when installed as they fit inside the 3D axle boxes. 

3) Top hat bearings (part no. 2-041).

Of course, membership is required to be able to buy parts from the 2mm Scale Association.

That's only a problem with 1 piece wheelset/axles, like PECO. I have a stock of Mike Bryant and some old N Gauge Society wheelsets that allow me to remove the wheels and, using a dremel and a file, reduce the length of axles, re pinpoint and refit the wheels. I have made axles from standard 14.8mm down to about 13mm.
Alternatively some steel axles of correct length could be made, the wheels cut off the plastic axle and drilled to fit on the new axle.

Mind you, I think nothing beats an axle in top hats for smooth, free running.
