A new batch of Dapol 33s promised by Q3/Q4 2022

DCC Ready priced at £123.25 (RRP £145) DCC Fitted at £148.75 (RRP £175) from most discounters.

I've listed the Rails site details as they have the best livery renditions (I think they are using Heljan previous releases in OO)

My wallet is now empty!

I might have been tempted but the one I have is a right screecher ::)
Availability Qtr3 2022 sounds fine for just a relivery but I hope nothing else is being delayed for them. After all, there's still no news on a production slot for the long announced M7

33s... well that's my wallet empty then, given that they seem to be the base traction on both my layouts!

Same chassis as your new beloved 27. Tried oiling it?

I bought one at the Ally Pally show that had a real buzz, my heart sank.
Then I removed the bogies and discovered that one of the pickup was out of place. I gently relocated it and all is now fine.

The first 33 was sent back as it sounded like a banshee. This replacement is not a lot better.
The class 27 is silky smooth so they can do it when they want to!

I'm hoping they get the correct roof for the Green / Small Yellow Panel version this time.  :hmmm:

You mean the one where you have to drill out the hole in the exhaust silencer? (because Dapol forgot to model it).  :D

They've already got the correct roof on the plain green ones, but the previous batch of small yellow panel ones had the later roof whereas photographic evidence suggests that it should have had the earlier roof. Dapol are aware of this so hopefully they will get it right this time  :)

I agree that the basic design of the plain green Class 33 roof is correct but they still left off the exhaust port on the top right hand corner of the big square exhaust silencer (as you look towards the front of the loco). Just compare the Dapol roof with the correct Heljan roof.
I've taken my bodies off and drilled a 2mm plain hole where the exhaust should be.

Oh and I don't hold out much hope of them remembering that they got it wrong and correcting it for this run.

I'll be interested to see the actual livery specifications for the BR blue ones - specifically whether they've got the orange cantrail stripe or not. Vaguely regretting not buying the BR blue one (33 020) from the second run as my first two are superb runners, but then again two are enough. Really, they are.

Really? Are you a true southern modeller?

I have ten green ones in three livery variations and eight banger blue ones.

I'm wondering if I need to sell anything else, as my stock drawers are quite full.

I have an old 33/0 which was making an awful noise when I first ran it. In the end I got so fed up with it I was on the point of buying new bogies but decided to strip the bogies completely and investigate. Having very carefully pulled the bogies off and not damaging the power contacts, I then removed the clip and unhooked the bottom plate. Lots of gooey muck in there, and also on the worm gears. After VERY careful cleaning and removal of all this muck, and a very sparing oiling with plastic friendly lube it runs much more quietly, and is also much smoother in operation. I use a Zimo MX617N and have set it up for the speed table to get the best (for me) operation - it is now capable of a proper crawl at around 100mm in 70 ish seconds.
worth a try?

Finally, after waiting over 55 years I am building a permanent layout in a purpose built shed!
