Rails wasn't actually affected by the fire itself, from what I understand.  However the Fire Service needed to break down one of Rails' doors to get access to their premises to check that the fire hadn't spread to their premises.

The title of this thread is a bit misleading since Rails' shop was not actually on fire.

"I am pleased to report that all is well at Rails. The fire was in the property adjoining the Emporium.



Minor damaged was caused to both the Emporium and flat above. The majority if this damaged was made by the Firemen who had to break into both the shop and flat to check for occupants and spreading of the fire. Luckily the fire hadn't spread to us and all residents were safe and well.

So we have a little bit of water and smoke damage in the flat and require a couple of new doors and a shutter. A full emporium deep clean is also taking place.



All new mail order stock is held off site so is unaffected. The business continues to function as normal.


We would like to thank the South Yorkshire Fire Department for all their efforts on Sunday, as things could have been a lot worse!



Our thoughts go out to the victim of the fire who I hear is still critical in hospital. "

A friend who was in the Met said they used to refer to the LFB as "London's Finest Burglars"; obviously being delicate isn't on the agenda at moments like this, but they'd often do huge amounts of damage and then head off once the fire was dealt with, leaving unsecured properties in their wake!

As above, I hope the gentleman from above the shop makes a full recovery. I'd have a sooty boxed model or 10 if it helps save Rails from cleaning them, with appropriate discount obviously

@Newportnobby Mick I think thay have that insurance beacuse of the amount of times they cut the roofs off cars ( rendering them wright offs) to get people out when trapped in accidents. But at then end of the day do you want your life saving or not.

Or when they just cut the roof of a car not involved in the accident, just because the owner was good enough to let one of the crash victims sit in their car, only for when the blue lights arrive they suddenly claim to have a back or neck injury, out come the jaws of life and off with the roof from an otherwise undamaged car.

Never let anyone involved in a car accident sit in your car, unless you fancy owning a convertible
