OK it is not our scale but the Hornby releases are going to be here when they get their website fixed from all the enthusiastic modellers trying to use it!!!!

Arnold announcement should follow in the next few days Who know maybe they have taken leave of their senses and will shrink down some British models to N.
(They could follow on from the Brighton belle with another EMU like the APT-P  )

Pre-grouping rolling stock has been an unexpected growth area.
With proposals for more wagons for Rocket and
With Hornby proposing generic 4 and 6 wheeler coaches in a number of liveries. This has got to be a manover against hattons own range of similar coaches.
Part of me is tempted, when I ignore all the reasons I moved to N, by the North British Railway Company coaches.

Hornby still have a few big ticket items from last year's anniversary launch but on the basis of the diesel and electric models announced we are not doing too badly.

i was having a look at the new releases from hornby this year , bet hattons were chuffed this morning along with a few others, love to have been a spy on the wall in that office this morning  , however people keep forgetting hornby have to make what they know will sell.  not what people want and this is 2 different things ,if hornby did move into n gauge i could see a class 800 coming from them.

I do wonder if Hornby will ever branch out into N or O Gauge models. Or 009?

Bachmann have the Farish range together with an increasing range of 009 models. They've also dabbled with brass O Gauge models whilst Dapol have an increasing range in all three scales.

Only if the market would sustain it.

The old Minitrix British N models were ok in their day and filled a need as a marketing exercise, but now eclipsed by Farish and Dapol etc. What's left in British N for Hornby to justify making as a mass market product (not talking about prototypes which only existed in small numbers and/or limited interest to modellers)?

Why did the Lyddle End building range get dropped?

Hornby have got a big enough share of N with the Arnold range I suppose.   The Belle was a nice model I believe (I don't have one), using Arnold technology.

O and 009 are lovely but again limited markets.

The Hornby website often struggles and grinds to a halt.  I almost didn't get my order for Captain Tom to accept at all back when they were on pre-order.

Revolution Trains, Sonic, Rapido Trains, RealTrack and Rails are all confident enough that the market can support more than just Farish and Dapol.

What could Hornby produce? Based on their (and sister company Oxford Rail) OO Gauge tooling, how about:
9F
Adams Radial
Dean Goods
N7
Patriot
Std 4
N15
Princess
T9
61xx
72xx
D16
K1
P2
J50
S15
King
J15
Q6
B12
Class 91
Class 71
Class 87
Mk4 coaches
Class 395
Pullman coaches
Gresley Suburban coaches
LMS non-corridor coaches
LSWR non-corridor coaches
LNER CCT
Coke hopper
OTA timber wagon
Rudd
Tope
Clam

Plenty of mass market stuff to go at!

Why did the Lyddle End building range get dropped?

I believe, and I may be wrong, it was when they almost went bust that it was dropped.

I am sure I recall a quote, which may have been from one of the TV shows, that Lyddle End was effectively an easy target to stop production when they were trying to restructure the company.
Prior to this I believe there was a desire to expand into British N in upper management.
