I've literally just found it!

It is apparently at the NRM (or was in 2010). Don't even need to cut off the step or paint it teak! Interesting colour paint - not quite maroon...

Cheers,

Even on the ex GER section, 4 wheelers were not used in mainline or branch trains very soon after Nationalisation..... Last survivors probably on the Thaxted and the Tollesbury light railways..

Quote from: PLD on December 28, 2020, 01:27:01 PMThey weren't an accurate representation of any single prototype. The body profile was probably closest to a Southern Maunsel as was the layout of the corridor side of the "Mainline" coaches but the roof profile was too flat.
The Non-Corridor coaches were closest to LMS Period 2 designs, but again the roof profile was wrong - more like ex Midland / LMS period 1 stock...

As Martyn said above Ultima did indeed do replacement roofs for both SR and LMS P2 profiles. IIRC the Ultima conversion packs also included details parts to rework the underframes to something more like.

Hello,

Can I ask if anyone knows whether a roof (with a profile that fits these coaches) is currently available as a spare or replacement?  :hmmm:

I've spotted a few possible leads (as follows), but it would be useful to know if anyone has experience of these or others (please).

The 2mm finescale society have these (with images on their shop website):
4-303   "Coach Roof & Ends: SR Bulleid: Plastic"
4-721   "Roof Section: BR MkI: c140mm: Plastic"
4-722   "Roof Section: LMS: c140mm: Plastic"

And FarishNspares (A.K.A. LP rails) have some options of Graham Farish (Poole) Class 101 DMU roofs ( GF0004-1 , GF0004-2 and GF0004-3 )

Any info or suggestions appreciated.

4-722 "Roof Section: LMS: c140mm: Plastic"
Is probably going to be closest for an LMS coach.

4-721 "Roof Section: BR MkI: c140mm: Plastic"
Might be closest for Maunsell Southern types.

Definitely NOT the DMU roofs though...

Good Lord! I have absolutely no recollection of starting this particular hare. Thank you @kenwoodka60 for resurrecting the thread - I've enjoyed reading through it again.

Needless to say, I haven't progressed any of the ideas mentioned above. One day, one day...

Cheers,

Chris

Remember the 2mm SA roofs are made to 2mm standards so will be smaller than N gauge roofs.

The 2mm Sacle Association roofs are about 2-3mm short when compared to a standard Mk1. You'll need to cut n shut if the coach you're modelling is of similar length.

The class 101 dmu roofs will be even shorter, bring a scale 57' long rather than 63'.

Very true, but @kenwoodka60 was referring to the generic Poole coaches which are nominally 57ft (actually 119mm) so the 140mm length will be fine...
