I need some help please.  I am confused as to what is a Mk1 carriage and what is not.
In the picture bellow are two carriages, which to me are both Mk1's, but, apparently not,
as I found out yesterday as I put an advert in the wanted section of this site.
Could someone please tell me why the carriage on the left is a Mk1, but the one on the right is not.

The one on the right is a Great Western design known as Collett. The one on the left is the first unified British Railways design known now as Mk1. Look at the two coaches side by side and note the different roofs, ends, gangways, sides and bogies.

The one on the left is a BR MK1 (farish model), the one on the right is a GWR 'Collett' type (Dapol model).

MK1/MK2/MK3/MK4 refer to the generations of British Railways coach design since Nationalisation in 1948. The Collett is a 1920s GWR design so pre-dates the MK1 type.

No expert on these things and the usual suspects will be along soon to correct my errors but my take on it is Farish made Mk1 coaches and Dapol didn't.  Dapol made the pre BR coaches in BR colours, as they would have been in BR use, so the one you show is probably a Stanier or Collett or Maunsell (Unlikely on the last one)

Farish also make pre BR Mk1 Coaches in BR Colours as well, like their Hawksworth

There are probably other pre BR Mk1 coaches in BR Colours as well.

There may be spelling and grammatical errors in my posts, I am Dyslexic so just think yourself lucky you can actually read what I have written.

I am also in the early stages of Alzheimer's and Vascular dementia so sometimes struggle with basic communication.

You don't need to point out my errors.  Thanks

Its amazing how many posts can be made in the time it takes me to type a short reply.  :hmmm:

Right, things are a clearer to me now, the Mk 1,2 etc, are coaches designed after 1948, which are only made by
Farrish,  so that is why I was wrong in asking for Dapol Mk1's. The Dapol  coaches are pre 1948.
Although I believe Dapol do make some Mk3 coaches for the HST?
Thanks for clearing this point up for me.

Currently in respect to post nationalisation BR designed coaches;
Farish make MK1 & MK2 coaches to current standards of detail. They have previously produced all of MK 1 - 4 but to lesser detailed standards.
(There are also ancient models of MK1s by Minitrix and Lima but these are best avoided.)

Dapol make MK3 coaches to current standards. (both HST trailer and loco-hauled variants)

Grouping Era coaches (built 1923-47 but many were still in service with British rail into the 1960s) are commonly referred to be the name of the designer or Chief Engineer when they were introduced.
Farish make LMS "Staniers"; LNER "Thompsons"; GWR "Hawksworths"; SR "Bullieds"
Dapol make LNER "Gresleys"; GWR "Colletts"; SR "Maunsells"

@Airfix 27 RA  Can the thread title be made a bit more relevant to the actual question asked please?

I thought this was going to be another general discussion/argument about which is best  :D

It is a train puzzle, it depicts an engine shed area, with five loco's in view.
An engine shed coaling area etc, put up on the wall about ten years ago.
Three walls of my model room are covered in jigsaw puzzles.

@Airfix 27 RA I'm pleased you have been given the information needed to sort out the differences between the assorted coach types. Norman
