Farish Diesels Loose Wheels

About 6 months ago I had a Farish Peak come to grief and discovered a driving wheel MISSING. I managed to find it and glued it back on (the rim had come off the insulating bush). I thought that this must be a one-off - I'd never experienced this before.
More recently I had trouble with another Peak (46053) which derailed in places where nothing else did - this was eventually rooted down to the pony truck at one end being out of gauge!
Today, I've had 47096 off the road; it had begun shorting out on a trailing live frog point for no apparent reason - until a few circuits later it derailed with - a loose wheel on the leading axle! Again the rim had come off the insulating bush. I glued it back on but it was more difficult to get this one running true. I decided to swap this axle with the 'inboard' one on the same bogie. It's running okay now but be warned - wheels can and do come loose! :'(

Wheels do occasionally go out of gauge due to this kind of thing but it's very rare.

Are you using a lubricant which may be attacking the plastic?

Eek, I think I had to adjust the back-to-back on the leading axle of one of my Peaks once, but never had wheels ever just fall off (or ever heard of that happening), despite having dismantled a fair few wheelsets to replace split gears.

47096 hadn't ever been lubricated (purchased 2017) - I put one drop of Mintrix oil on the visible spur gear on each bogie yesterday. I don't like putting loads of oil on anything much, so I don't think I have an oil contamination issue. My normal lubrication rule is 'if it doesn't look bone dry, leave it alone'!

:doh:What is track cleaning fluid? No, seriously, I only use a Peco track rubber (or sometimes a clean hanky which reveals just how dirty the rails are!

Quite a few of the older Farish diesels are a very tight fit in the grey 'sponge' and I wonder if getting them out of/into that sponge causes some issues
I always fit a piece of polythene inside the sponge such that I can pull the loco out with equal pressure on each end.
