Hi All

I have two Langley? white metal Class 21s, one finished superbly by Ozymandias, the other bought ages ago, but was supposed to have been converted to a class 22,(before the Dapol ones came out) I suspect its had split headcode boxes added? as that seems to be the only difference, did the 21/29 ever have split headcodes? I cant seem to find any evidence.
Also the first one is on a Minitrix chassis the other on a Mehano chassis it appears that it was designed for a Farish Poole chassis? Maybe if they both looked a little similar would help!!!
Any thoughts welcome!

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy

I had that kit and I did convert mine to look like a pilot scheme class 22 with split headcodes (D6301 - D6306). The sides of the pilot scheme 22s were much more like the Class 21s and nothing like the production batch of 22s. At the time of purchase, it was designed for a Mehanotechnica chassis, which is what I fitted.

Did you buy my class 22 D6303 off EBay in 2012, perhaps?

Later, Langley tried to design their kits for Poole Farish chassis.

The class 22 is of course a lot shorter than the 21/29, and so I sold my lookalike pilot scheme version in 2012, around when the Dapol 22 came out.

No class 21s ever had split headcode boxes. They were either discs or centre headcode boxes.

PS I like the way you said one finished superbly, implying the other is not :). If it is mine, well it was a long time ago in a distant galaxy...

I fitted my cl 21 onto a Poole cl 33 chassis with no problems. There were castings to replace the bogie sides to be closer to the real ones.

I accept the compromises in this, and, as a very late production Poole loco, it runs well, and has been ddc'd to boot.

Cheers for the replys.
It would seem that Bobs version is alive and well in North Derbyshire! The build is fine and the paint work, but Gideons just edges it i think! (sorry Bob) Its lost a couple of its numbers and the BR logos could due with replacing so think I will sort that and leave as is. The Dapol one I have is disc headcodes.
I believe theres a Langley one on Ebay, with a Dapol chassis but that does need attention. We shall see.

Hi Andy

I just took a look at the EBay Class 21. That's a Worsley Works brass model, by the look of it.
Lots of potential but would need a strip back to the brass, most probably.

Glad you have my old Class 22. One reason for not changing the bogie frames was keeping some integrity in the bogie frame itself. They only look wrong when you know they are wrong :)

And it was built a long time ago. Not sure my modelling skills are much better, but my solution then was always to lay the paint on thick! I am a little more delicate these days.

Best chassis for this kit in my opinion is the Atlas / Kato RS3, which is the right length, has bogie sideframes almost identical to the Class 21 and is a beautiful runner.  http://www.spookshow.net/loco/kators3.html

Here's mine, more than twenty years old and in need of a cosmetic makeover.
