Farewell, Willie Thorn

I'm no fan of snooker these days (it's just a cure for insomnia to me) but I was brought up with 'Pot Black' on the telly.
Sadly, Willie Thorn, one of the stalwarts of snooker in those times and a real gentleman has passed away

Sad sad day, he was  always a good laugh with other commentators and when he appeared on tele, sadly taken too soon.

Being a lad from Leicester, like Willie, I have actually played snooker against him in his Snooker Club in the City, this was back about 1980'ish with a school friend of mine, he played both of us at the same time and still hammered us 

Great bloke though, giving us tips and helping us with our shots.

An immensely likeable and entertaining personality. Probably my favourite snooker player - often the underdog, I'd always be rooting for Willie though too often in vain.
