I'm no fan of snooker these days (it's just a cure for insomnia to me) but I was brought up with 'Pot Black' on the telly.
Sadly, Willie Thorn, one of the stalwarts of snooker in those times and a real gentleman has passed away :(

Sad sad day, he was  always a good laugh with other commentators and when he appeared on tele, sadly taken too soon.

In the words of Denis Taylor,

Farewell Great One, Willie Thorne

Being a lad from Leicester, like Willie, I have actually played snooker against him in his Snooker Club in the City, this was back about 1980'ish with a school friend of mine, he played both of us at the same time and still hammered us  :D :D :D

Great bloke though, giving us tips and helping us with our shots.

Cheers

Neal.

An immensely likeable and entertaining personality. Probably my favourite snooker player - often the underdog, I'd always be rooting for Willie though too often in vain.

R.I.P. Willie 'Mr Maximum' Thorn
