Following all the sad news about the passing of so many at the moment we sat down to dinner tonight and an age old topic of

Which 10 people dead or alive would you invite to your ultimate dinner party??

My 10 havent changed that much in the 10 years weve had this discussion..........

Clint Eastwood, great actor and producer
Michael Schumacher, F1 great!!!
Andy Rouse, BTCC great
Dick Bennets, Team principal of WSR
Fred Dibnah, steeplejack, steam & architecture enthusiast
Pete Waterman, pop mogul, railway enthusiast
Isambard Kingdom Brunel, engineering marvel
Oliver Bulleid, Railway marvel
Richard Noble, Land Speed Record holder
Frank William's, F1 marvel
Stephen Fry, very clever bloke

I invite you to list your chosen 10, not to disparage each other and argue over why you've chosen who you have. At this time spending so much at home just gives an idea as to who else we think wed enjoy spending time with

Good game for a Bank Holiday!

My picks (mainly because I want to meet them, no idea if they would be good dinner guests):

Stephen Fry
Sandy Toksvig

Joseph Smith (2nd in command to Reginald Mitchell, and the guy who took over the development of the Spitfire very early in its life).

Alan Turing

Tommy Flowers (telephone engineer who actually made the theory of Turing real in the form of the colossus machines. £1000 of his own money and barely recognised by the nation he helped save).

Daisy Ridley

John Boyega (mainly because footage of him on The Falcon for the first time ever is basically me. You can't fake that kind of enthusiasm).

Robert Downy Junior
Deke Slayton

Captain Les Brody (last Captain to fly a Concorde).

He wasn't completely forgotten. On part of the old Bletchley Park site, they built a housing estate, and in there they built a care home specifically geared up for people with dementia. It was called 'Flowers House' after the man himself. My grandfather was a resident for a few years before he progressed to a nursing home.

Sometimes you bite the dog...

...sometimes the dog bites you!

I can explain it to you...

...but I can't understand it for you.

I think I would have to go for some of the guys I've served with but lost touch with,

names would probably not mean anything to anyone, but

a couple of instructors from RAFP QPD course
several guys from Ballykelly, both snowdrops and fur box mechanics
same from Muharraq
and Waddo, though I can think of one person I would deffo slam the door on.
and several from Brize...

probably need more that 10 seats, but all people that I liked / owed / respected.

sorry, no celebs on the list,
but if @ exmouthcraig wanted to turn up and pass on some of his skills, and maybe a lamb, mmmmmm

Oh that's something I suppose (sorry about your Grandfather, hope he had as nice a time there as possible) and I am aware Tommy did get awarded £1000 by the government / nation. It's just that his story isn't as well known as Turnings and he wasn't allowed to talk about his work.
