Sorry Malc but I now have a mental picture of you dancing around the table doing a full Monty. I won't be able to sleep tonight  :(

Off topic a bit but @daveg and myself have had to forcibly restrain Malc from doing his act at the Stafford show before now ::) Not a nice job, but someone has to do it ;)

Family pot-luck in Southern California.

The Management's family (and now mine by marital good fortune) are 5th-generation Japanese Americans, so I make the sushi. You know it makes sense, the British gaijin brings the raw fish.

No turkey, that was Thanksgiving, but every family member brings a favorite you can count on. A big gathering, the food served buffet-style, help yourself and sit where there's room.

Lovely.

Hope it's not Californian wine  ;)
Yep, we curate the wines. We'll see your Yarra Valley pinot noir and raise you a Santa Rita Hills ... and don't get me started on the chardonnays or the cabs, we'll be here all night  :beers:

Does he leave his hat on?

No!

:jawdropping:

Merry Yule everyone - hope you get what you wish for.

Totally aside and OT, Please make time for a thought for @1936ace who, with colleagues, is fighting the awful fires in Oz and all those that take care of us in so many ways.

Here,
It depends by the region....north , centre , south.
We start on 24th that is called "vigilia" and  we don't eat meat both for lunch and dinner.
Here we have not a typical Christmas dinner because we eat the "the rest" of Christmas lunch that's very monumental and impressive usually....many kind of plates with many kind of "antipasti", pasta, meats  and cakes..it's always depends by the region....and many kind of wines obviously!
The "bollito misto" as shown over by AlexandreJesse is typical of Christmas "north" lunch..
So...Merry Christmas to all.

Pretty standard here,  Turkey and veg and lots of dressing (stuffing for you guys in the UK) While there's only the three of us (well 4 with the Cat who gets her own plate of Turkey).  Its been a while since Canadian Thanksgiving (which is my fave holiday as its only about a nice meal :)

One addition that I do love here though is Yams, I  Love mashed yam with butter and Maple syrup (Hell anything tastes better with Maple syrup!!).

My fave Christmas meal though is cold turkey, chips and pickles on boxing day, this year with some awesome pickled green tomatoes that we made earlier in the year.

(also.. we're all sympathising and sending good thoughts to Oz, BC has had its fair share of serious forest fires in the last couple of years so we understand whats you're going through)

I find turkey uninteresting but getting the family to agree on an alternative is a nightmare, so it'll be the usual t-word again this year. I look forward to my wife's Christmas puddings which are light and fruity, not dark and bitter like some.

When I was younger I used to prefer what we got on Boxing Day. That was my Mum's birthday (she would have been 100 this year...) and she refused to be fobbed off with Christmas leftovers! So we often had a simpler, nicer meal that day.

Whatever you do, have a good Christmas everybody.

Cheers,

Chris

If I'm at relatives for the Christmas dinner I do like to get home and relax with a couple of fingers of my favourite tipple (Southern Comfort) using Mick's Magic Measure of two fingers, and I don't mean the middle ones

That reminds me time to open a bottle of Highland Park..

I have no idea because I am going to my future son-in-laws' for Christmas dinner. I know he worked as a sous chef in the past, so it had better be good!

Ali Smith

Highland Park is good and so is Southern Comfort although I can find it a bit syrupy, so I came up with this:

Sicilian Comfort:

2msr Southern Comfort
1msr Galliano
1msr Cointreau
Juice of 1/2 lemon

Serve over ice in a tumbler or highball glass according to your aesthetic preference.
Garnish with a slice of lemon and possibly a cherry as it's Christmas.
Enjoy!
