Major gripe day; appointment for blood test at 10.55, appointment at hospital a bit over half a mile away at 11.20 and I doubt I could walk half a mile, let alone in 20 - 25 minutes, the chance of getting a bus, plus walking to bus station then walking from bus stop to the hospital did not appeal,  so took a taxi to the hospital and booked in for my appointment with about 10 minutes to spare.

Sat on hard chair waiting as all the upholstered seats were in use, that should have given me a clue, at about 11.40 they came out and apologised as an equipment malfunction had put them 1H20M behind schedule, underestimated!! I finally got in to my appointment at 12.50. took less than 10 minutes for the appointment, however the consultant decided I'd best see a dietician, another half hour plus wait. I had left home about 10.20 finally got home at 14.40, I left my walking stick behind somewhere en route, probably while paying for the car park.
Cheers MIKE

They're quick enough to (rightly) complain when the patient is late for an appointment. But when the patient has to wait or is inconvenienced they just expect you to lump it.

Indeed. I'm a volunteer driver for Cumbria's voluntary transport scheme and a couple of weeks ago I took a lady 20 miles to the "local" health centre to see a consultant.

After we'd been waiting half an hour beyond her appointment time a nurse came out and said that the consultant had been double-booked and was currently at Barrow hospital in scrubs and gloves up to his elbows inside someone else. They'd tried to get an alternative but nobody was available.

The nurse was very apologetic but unable to do anything beyond push for another appointment to be given priority. Not their fault but that was a complete morning wasted for two people plus the cost of getting there and back for nothing  >:(

Agree with the comments as to patients being inconvenienced. 25 minutes ago left home. Walked down a pavement, narrow road, ambulance passes parked cars answering 999 call lights on. Idiot driving an audi pulls out. 4 cars behind ambulance with right of way. Audi refuses to shift. I end up having to jump into some residents garden. Felt annoyed and sorry for the ambulance

You could try an appointment at the John Radcliffe in Oxford.

It's a 50 min drive from us, you need to have a driver as when you get to the last turn for the hospital you join the back of the car park queue. 10mins before her appointment, the wife gets out of the car and walks in. I just get 2 cars from the barrier, the wife gets back in the car, we do a three point turn and go home. That's WITH a 45min delay on her appointment. If driving to the appointment alone you need to add 1hr to your schedule.

Have a pleasant day.

agree entirely.

SWMBO had an appointment a few months ago at the local hospital, first appointment after lunch, 14:00 or 2pm for those who never served, "please be here at least 10 minutes before appointment", ok no probs, but that would mean in on time ?

NFC  :veryangry:

actually got in to see consultant  14:20 / 2:20 pm.

heavens knows what the delays were by 16:00 / 4 pm.

still, helps to increase the car parking receipts doesn't it ?

hope it was all worth it in the end, and all now well.

I've said this before, but they seem to book appointments at our hospital in 15 min slots. Unfortunately the consultant takes 30 mins with some patients. Hence if you are due just after lunch, it's 4pm before you get seen. Worst case was a 12:30 Saturday appointment that we got away at 5:30. Cost an arm and a leg at the car park.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

That has to be up there for the worst acronym ever. Is it even a thing?

For a bit of balance (at least for transport) I tend to use the Royal Surrey and they're not bad, never queued to park, they've a handy app to pay with now, so no guessing how long you'll be or having to go and top up the meter.

Still don't run on time though; I had an 8:45 appointment recently after my 2 year old jabbed me in the eye with some vigour, first appointment of the day, and they were 30 minutes late.
