Rails of Sheffield Custom Weathering service

Just had an e-mail arrive advertising a new service from R of S.

Apparently they are now offering weathering on locomotive, coaches and wagons as a bolt on.

Seems like reasonable value to me.

Anybody used this yet or is it too new?

The newsletter states £15 for a coach and £25 for a loco and you can choose 'light', 'medium' or 'heavy' weathering but it is at point of ordering so you can't send them stuff to be done.
It also adds up to 2 weeks to your order.

Sounds very much like TMC's approach, which also offers light, medium or heavy weathering. May indeed even be the same folk subcontracted to do it.

It's good to have a second major retailer offering weathering at point of sale. Rails' weathering prices are comparable to those elsewhere and their 2 week lead-time is better than most (though I won't be surprised if that stretches out). The weathering specialists do the best work but they rarely offer from stock and their turnaround times can be very long, especially when you factor in transit time to and from. TMC do offer weathered items from stock which means you can see what you are getting, but their prices are high.

I've just ordered a 38xx from Rails with weathering service so I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks, that gives me an idea what to expect - looks like fairly basic but competent weathering.

I was thinking of giving these guys a try but was curious to see an actual model that been done for somebody on here.

Yes, i stumbled across it by accident on the website, it's a bit strange how they have implemented this, if it was me i would have a checkbox on the page for ordering as part of your normal order but this you have to add a weathering service as a product and it's not very easy to find so here is the link ! https://railsofsheffield.com/search?searchTerm=custom+weathering

To reboot - Rails did a reasonable basic weathering job on my 38xx, but I have since discovered Grimy Times (who will also supply and weather) and Weathering Works (top notch weathering for similar money).

I have used the Weathering Works for my class b tankers and he did a great job on those, but i was asking about the rails job as it savs posting things all over the place. Any pics of the weathering job rails did ?

Doubtful, Bob. According to their YouTube tour TMC have a chap called Richard who sits in a paint closet and does all the weathering.
