FGW Electrostars at North Pole

I spotted one of the new FGW Electrostars at North Pole yesterday.  Looks very smart.  I believe there are two of them running 8 coach trains from Hays and Harlington to Paddington.

Why do they have to bolt a carriage interconnection to the nose ?

It must affect aerodynamics and driver visibility??

They will run in up to 12-car formations and the gangway allows free movement throughout the train. Ugly but a necessary evil.

I have to agree with you on this. I found it a nuisance when the 321's appeared on the Euston - Birmingham service and didnt have end gangways. In my opinion all multiple units should have them unless the will never couple to another unit in service.

On the older EMUs you could stand next to the cab in that gangway and watch the instruments, including the speedometer, working. Used to amuse me as a youngster.
