Hello, my second topic on this forum, and my second question. This year, I entered the N Gauge Society Annual Model Making Competition for the first time, in the road vehicle category (most contestants brought model trains by car; I brought model cars by train!). Since I was travelling by rail, I had to leave before the presentation. Now, I knew that none of my models were worthy of the cup, but the rules still imply that most, if not all, entrants will get a certificate.

I have received nothing so far. I have also noticed that, while the certificates are still mentioned in the rules, the Journal no longer prints details of the certificate earned by each entry like it used to, just marking the winner and runner-up. Has anyone on this forum received certificates in the competition recently, or might they have been abolished?

Also, one of my many unrealised ambitions is to design and sell on Shapeways. Now, in the AMMC Rules, it states in rule 6a that no one who makes money from their modelling activities can enter the competition, which I would assume excludes Shapeways sellers. However, rule 6b states that a Shapeways seller might be allowed to enter model they have partially designed on that service, if it's sold as a 'scratch aid,' implying that Shapeways sellers can enter. This is a question for future, but might I be allowed to enter future competitions if I also sell unrelated models on Shapeways?

I dare say someone from the NGS will provide an answer for you but have you put your question directly to them and, if so, have you had a response?

I recently contacted Grahame Hedges, mainly about an article I put in the last Journal (actually submitted in February, but only published in the last one). I asked him about the certificates. In his reply, he said he was not himself up to date with the competition walls, and that he would forward my message to Michael. After that, nothing. I was more comfortable writing to Grahame, having communicated with him over my submissions and met at the AGM, but maybe I should contact Michael myself.

By the way, were any forum members at the presentation at the end of the AGM?

An update; I have managed to contact Michael, and he aknowledges that this year's certificates are running late. This should reassure any other forum members still awaiting their certificates. Personally, I'm hoping might get a bronze, but I might not go beyond highly commended. Gold is very rarely awarded. I wonder how many Britons managed it this year!
