probably a silly question, but would it be possible to convert Intercity scheme carriages to ScotRail scheme by replacing the red stripes with blue, or would it be better to look at a complete repaint ?

Western Exile

I've seen a picture elsewhere of one of Farish's new InterCity Mk1 BGs that has been turned into a ScotRail one. The owner simply masked off the red stripe, painted it blue and added some ScotRail transfers. If I can remember where I saw it, I'll post a link. I'm all for keeping it simple!

Bingo! That's exactly the picture I was thinking of.

People beat me to it!

The only difference between The original Intercity Livery and the ScotRail Livery was the Colour of the Stripe (And wording).
Most of the repaints were undertaken at Craigentinny Depot so should  match the Intercity Stock they repainted.

I don't think there are any differences between intercity and INTERCITY coaches but if you start with intercity coaches you should be fine.

Assuming we are talking MK3's;
No one makes MK3A coaches with the correct 3 vents so the closest you will get is to find Buffered Coaches.

To recreate the rakes painted in ScotRail you will need either;
1 First class and 4 Standard class; To represent the original Rakes when they were first repainted.
OR
1 Composite and 3 Standard class; As a coach was removed after First class was downgraded.
OR
1 Composite and 4 Standard class; As 3 1/2 coaches were not enough.

If you are looking to create coaches to go with the Farish "Sir Walter Scott" you will want the last rake (1+4) on that list as the Farish Model has a Terrier on the side which was the Eastfield Depot Mofit. The 47/7's were all Haymarket based, so would have had a Castle on the side, until 1987 when Eastfield took on the role as the main Diesel depot due to Sectorization.

many thanks all.
I got the ScotRail mk.3 sets, and I am waiting for the release this year, next year, sometime, never of the DBSO for one of these rakes.
I was therefore looking at BGs to go with the other rakes, as I seem to remember seeing photos of them with these sets.
I am assuming that where the rakes are listed below as being all mk.3s there was no guards compartment, be it in a BG or BSO.

again, many thanks

There were no ScotRail painted Brake coaches other than the BG and the DBSO's.

The BG's were suppose to only appear on the Aberdeen-Glasgow runs but I am not sure how strictly this was adhered to and I believe they appeared elsewhere. The rakes could get mixed up and mk2's and mk3's swapped about between the push and pull sets. Not all the MK2's were repainted and could wander a lot further so could be put in a normal train.

In Theory the Rakes painted in ScotRail were;
Edinburgh to Glasgow
DBSO, 1 MK3 First class and 4 MK3 Standard class; (Original)
DBSO, 1 MK3 Composite and 3 MK3 Standard class; (Composite Created)
DBSO, 1 MK3 Composite and 4 MK3 Standard class; (Lengthened)
Glasgow to Aberdeen
DBSO, 1 MK2 First class, 1 MK2 Standard class Trolley, 3 MK2 Standard class and 1-2 MK1 BG; (Original)
DBSO, 1 MK2 First class, 1 MK2 Standard class Trolley and 3 MK2 Standard class; (No BG)
Edinburgh to Aberdeen
DBSO, 1 MK2 First class, 1 MK2 Standard class Trolley and 2 MK2 Standard class;

All MK2 above are Air conditioned ones.

This is however only a guide to the "Boring" Rakes.
Sprinkle in to this a Number of repainted Non aircon MK2 Standards (From the original class 27 push pull) which were used to replace/strengthen any train.
I Have also seen pictures of groups of 3 MK2 and MK3 being swapped about between rakes.
Then there is the elusive MK3 Sleeper coaches which operated as part of the Internal Scottish Sleepers which were attached to the Aberdeen trains. Two were suppose to have been repainted but I have never seen a picture.
Heck if you want something really interesting an Observation Saloon was also Repainted into ScotRail!

Before N gauge I had set myself a goal of trying to get one of each ScotRail Liveried coach in OO gauge. I admit its a temptation for me in N as well but I Need to concentration on getting the Layout Built First!

The lower light grey is a different (darker) colour / shade (three shades used in total)

I have not yet looked at the NEA / NHA that Farish have produced
However, I assume it is the earlier colour / shade, as very few had the later colour / shade

It should also be noted there are numerous versions of the ScotRail livery applied to the  Class 47/7 locos
Just by luck Farish have chosen 47710 which carried one of the standard versions, but they have not applied the black window surrounds
