hi,

has anyone else experienced very fine detailing on the bogies of diesel locos catching on the points?   i think it is the sand pipes or other very fine details attached to the bogies but not totally sure.

anyway i never had this problem before but just had it with my class 31 and class 25 (they are the new version farish locos)

it's not a problem as obstructing parts can be removed with scissors or a knife, but i just wondered if others have had this problem too?

cheers,

I've had the same problem with several Dapol steam locos. The only solution is to shorten the offending part as bending is not a long term solution.

Hi blue depot this isn't the first time. I mentioned on a post before about the class 57 thunderbirds when they first came out Terry Henson and me spent a while cutting off a tiny bit of the sand pipes on a whole box full at NESCOT show one year after customers complained they had test run them on a well known layout at the show and they kept falling of off the track So the problem has appeared again as you say this is very simple to cure unlike some of the problems with other modern Locos.

ah ok, thats kind of a relief and cheers for replies.

i realise my track work isn't that great and there are some small gradients on my layout too... but still i thought it was a bit strange that this was happening.

it was sand pipes on the class 31 i think, not sure what on the 25 yet.  anyway i shall cut them shorter whatever they are.

maybe sand pipes is a detail too far in n... ok in close up photos you can see them, but from normal distance viewing...

anyway cheers again

Yeah had this on 57s and 47s. Also on 66s there's part of the bogie moulding ahead of the wheels which sits very close to the rail head and if you have a modular layout with a slight difference in rail heights, they can get caught and hung up.

Cheers, Mark.
