I've just had the gas people round to have a look at the existing plumbing. NOT a good visit...
...The guy who was here is not the one who will make the final call on how to proceed but his feeling is that there will be, possibly, a serious delay in getting the work done that will get me access to the place where my layout is to be built. I asked him what actually comprises a 'serious delay'. The response was, 'Oh, it could be months and months!'...
...I have another meeting with the architect and some council people on Thursday, so believe me, many questions will be asked!!! My only area of hope lies in the fact that the delays will also impinge on gas supply to the new build that is part of this work and I really don't see them being allowed to hold that up for '... months and months!' due to the shortage of housing in the area...
Well, it seems that the gas man was talking through the wrong orifice. It's not even his lot who are doing the installation! We are back to just a few weeks before the work is done. The architect and the site agent both said that the work was well up to program speed, possibly even ahead of plan.

I feel better...
"When in trouble, when in doubt, run (trains) in circles..." etc.
There, doesn't that feel better?
Lovely!

I may appear to be listening to you, but inside my head, I'm playing with my trains.

Dontcha just love it when utilities people speak from their pipehole? ::)

Reminds me of the Russian who went into the showrooms and ordered a new cooker. The sales assistant told him delivery would be in 6 months time. The guy asked the assistant "Will that be morning or afternoon?" A bit taken aback, the assistant asked "Does it make a difference?" and the bloke replied "Yes. The gas man is coming in the morning"
