loco faster on dc than dcc

i have 3x dapol class 56

all run quite smooth and slow, fine for freight locos, but they are just too slow... struggling to get to a scale speed 30mph...

anyway on dc they run a bit faster, at least get to say 60 mph

any ideas on how to get them faster on dcc?

 Is it worth doing a reset ? See chip leaflet for this.

What voltage is your DCC controller outputting to the track? Some controllers allow you to alter this .

Have you fitted the chip to another loco and observed it?

Check the voltage settings on your CVs (should be CV5=255 for the maximum and CV6=127 for the intermediate).

If the running is still slow, what is the decoder type?

Some decoders allow the speed to be adjusted in analogue DC. For example, the ESU LokPilot v.4 uses CV126 which can be set up to 255 for the fastest speed.

Also, some decoders have a half speed/shunting speed function, which iirc is usually somewhere around F8. Possibly this has been activated?

i tried a new digitrax decoder in one of the 56s and set the cv values as suggested - it made no difference

just very slow running locos i think!  they are very noisy as well.

they do run quite smooth at low speed and they look pretty good so not bad at all, just a bit too slow...

I wonder if you have a speed table enabled. If so, the CV5 setting will be ignored. Instead you need to set the maximum speed for step 28 by entering CV94=255 (confusingly, the manual gives CV94=218 in their example, so that might be tried as well!).

Check to see if the motors are getting warm, if they are this could be your issue. I have had to have a couple replaced under warranty.

I've also found that some Dapol steam locos can be slower on DCC than DC. It's not a particular issue to me as the location I model has a 40mph line speed.
