Size matters - especially if you don't have a lot of space - and N gauge is the answer!

Repeat on Ch4+1 at 9pm
"Where's my missing mail"

Just watched it. Hard to believe what I just witnessed. Although I do not condone actions of the rank and file staff, clearly being underpaid and in regards
Of the courier being paid 60 pence per parcel means she earns less than £5 per hour. Being 'self employed' she is not entitled to minimum wage.

Just watching the repeat now.
Yodel say their rates of damage are "In line with industry average", but if they are the largest company ( 70% was it ?? ) then they are pretty much setting the industry average rate themselves  !

Yeeeeessssss........... what's your point  ???

::) :P

DELETED

Yodel and Hermes were voted bottom of the rankings on couriers for at least one year past -several years spring to mind and universally known how bad they are.  I know what Yodel are like as a recipient and I've seen the vids of them before.  I stopped buying from anyone using Hermes also now after my last parcel through them was proved stolen buy the driver and we got the police involved.  I was really struggling for work this past 12 months, but the fact both companies advertise "owner drivers" (e.g. you drive your own van) for £25+ a day says an awful lot to me.  Thing is I've has such repeated poor experiences as a reciepient -I still can't figure out how these companies still keep going while my local very good courier folded earlier this year.

...I've yet to see the programme but don't think I'll be surprised.  I don't care how good an on-line deal is but if either company is involved I won't touch it with a bargepole.

I feel very much the same as Rich with regard to Yodel & Hermes. What has amazed me is how I have had packages sent via hermes delivered by random people in their own, often ageing vehicles. You pay for a service and it's right for you to expect it to be treated securely and with respect, whoever the service is from. I spent many years with Royal Mail, and on several occasions did work with their investigation branch to catch and apprehend thieves. Yes their are thieves within Royal Mail, in fact one of them was at ministerial level some years back. When I post something with Royal Mail I know they have an active investigation branch (I.B.) and post will be delivered by a member of their staff with accountability to the company as an employee. It's a huge market delivering packages that can only continue to grow with internet shopping. I will continue to use R.M signed for, and when warranted Special delivery for the items I send. They have been in the business of delivering mail for just a few years now...

And that's £5 before tax, fuel, wear and tear on car etc. Is it any wonder the level of service is poor. It is basically slave labour.

The main problem is everyone wants something for nothing. If you want free or ridiculously cheap P&P then you're going to get what you pay for. Yodel and other couriers can get away with what they pay as 'if you're not prepared to do it for 60p someone else will be'.

And what about those people who specify (and pay for) Royal Mail but get Yodel ?

What a bunch of $!"!&*%($% and what a way top treat the workforce regardless of who they might be  :-\

Here's my 'take' on the delivery situation that most of us rely on in today's world...
Firstly, there is no such thing as a free delivery!  Don't for a moment think that there is.  'Free' simply means that the cost has already been added to the price of the item before stating what ever that might be.
When a business does their cost analysis they include a lot of things that do not appear as part of the  published price of an item, they are classed as 'overheads'.  One of these is 'damaged/lost goods'.  The 'why' or 'how' of this aspect of costing doesn't matter to the 'bean counter' at this point.  So long as the cost can be passed on to the carrier, it's a paperwork exercise.
Now, looking at the carriers cost analysis, we see that they must also include a sum for 'damaged/lost goods'.
This part of the carriers costings will then be added to their charges made to the selling business to allow for a continuing profit to the carrier company.  The seller then adjusts the cost of the items that they offer to us. (remember that 'free delivery' is a fairy tale)
All of this means that we are paying more for an item than we should be, due to the actions of a company that refuses to handle the goods properly.
I don't know what difference it would make if all of this stuff was done in a proper and ethical manner but I think I can say that all of us would like to have a chance to find out.

I had seen part of that documentary previously.  Thanks, Mike, for the nudge and the chance to see it all the way through.  An eye opener indeed.

Here is another 'fairy tale' - wouldn't it be nice if companies were willing to put web cams in their premises and to publish a link to them? - Yeah! Right!  That's gonna happen!!!
"When in trouble, when in doubt, run (trains) in circles..." etc.
There, doesn't that feel better?
Lovely!

Ultimately we get what we pay for and whilst we all like a bargain it must be near impossible for the likes off the more regulated Royal Mail to compete effectively. My local yodel driver is very good but the standard of the whole operation is questionable... I am only glad that the hattons of the world robustly package their parcels with all those air bags they fill boxes up with !

But if they used a reputable carrier in the first place, hmmm ?
