Best surface for inside of engine shed - BR Western Region early 1960s

Hi Folks:

I'd love to hear advice on the best surface for the inside of an engine shed - old, but in use on BR Western Region SE Wales early 1960s.

The shed is a small 2 engine job. In the world of 'my railway' it is 'ex-GWR' as it were.

This is not my area and so would I be right in thinking that the track would not be ballasted and the whole interior would have a flat (as in level) matte grey sort of look, like concrete or large paving slabs... or what?

And what's between the rails inside there?

It would have a very dirty, oil, and coal dust coloured matte grey sort concrete finish with inspection pits in at least one track?

Yup, a concrete base and industrial levels of dirt.

Visit Didcot shed and even after restoration the flooring hasn't changed since steam days - however much we cleaned it, it still gets dirty - lets face it, the reality of working steam was a filthy environment,
I know, I was at Didcot for many years, and despite the dedicated workforce, it was hard to keep the filth at bay

Yes, I'd go along with what everyone else has said.
And you are correct, no ballast.
