I've noticed that while my track and loco wheels are clean, some of the metal wheels of my carriages and wagons are encrusted with black gunk which you can easily scrape off. It's such a  fiddly job, does anyone have a method for cleaning them easily? Cheers, Dan

I minimize wagon and carriage wheel cleaning by cleaning the track before running anything. That said a cotton bud soaked in alcohol does the trick quickly for each wheel but still an overall tedious job.

Get a white cotton hanky and pour some meths on it. Lay the hanky over a piece of spare track and push the wagons up and down until the wheels stop producing black lines.

Quite agree the simplest method I have used. If you have a good session and clean the track as well everything stays clean longer.

As a child, did you used to work up chimneys? :hmmm:

I never did, but I'll never forget those blokes coming with the white sheets and the smell of that soot coming down the chimney.

How the heck did we have white shirts?

Maybe we just thought they were.
