Hello all.
As last year, the wishlist poll has started on RMweb.
Again a small team of volunteers manages it.

As a non-British guy, it's very interesting to discover all these engines, coaches and wagons.  :D

To vote, go here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/page/wishlist_2015.html

There is also a topic on it: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/104272-the-wishlist-poll-2015/
Enjoy!

Glad I found this !

I any of you do go over to the dark side that is RM Web and vote, could you please cast a vote for this bit of GWR stock:

GWR Motor Car Vans – Damo & Asmo (Diag.G24/G25 of 1925 & Diags.G26/G32 of 1930)

I have only ever seen one of these at the SDR, and thats in the museum complete with drawings, I'm not sure if there are still any others in existence, so it is probably a rare bit of kit.

I noticed the Class 25/3 is missing as well as the Class 87 and 90.

The poll is well worth doing though because it lets the manufacturers know what we would like.

Also missing is the "can't we just have lower prices" button 8)

I finally had a look on Kernow after being away from modelling for most of a year. Ye gods, I'm keeping my old stuff !

I completed the wish list, but like many I do not have an endless supply of "disposable income" to spend on model trains. I mentioned recently on the high level of buy it now items on ebay. To my mind it's no longer the auction site it once was for N gauge models. I believe people ARE increasingly hanging on to what they have in the face of increasing prices. I was recently bought a Hawksworth coach as a present, and very nice it is too. At one time I would have looked towards buying a good rake of them, but now I will just get a couple more spread over some time. There is no denying the level of detail in recent models seems to increase with each new release, along with their price. We can all potentially fill in a wish list, but whether we can actually afford new models, or as many of them remains to be seen. How far away are we from a super detailed B.R. covered van...that breaks through the £20 rrp? !   I agree with your sentiments EtchedPixels.

I share the sentiment.

I have by any sensible measure a pretty reasonable modelling budget but it doesn't stretch as far as it once did. I am becoming more selective as regards locos justifying far fewer "Rule 1's" than I once did.

As for rolling stock, I have far more than I can ever realistically use so buy only odd items that take my fancy these days. That said, if Bachmann were ever to introduce Thompson coaches a rake of those would be one very notable (and no doubt expensive) exception to my general rule!

Like others.
I don't have an endless supply of modelling money, but there is plenty out there for me to go after.

One thing that isn't mentioned in the wish list which could possibly have been put on is timings of releases, I appreciate that the manufactures my use the wish list as a guide on what to make my issue been.

They tend to release in groups and with the manner they work producing in batches I have missed out on models which I am after as I can't afford all the ones I want when they are released only a few and then unless they are going to do another run later I have to chance ebay or just do without!
Mechanical issues can be solved with a hammer and electrical problems can be solved with a screw driver. Beyond that it's verbal abuse which makes trains work!!

Many of us take up modelling approaching or during retirement. I do wonder if this will to the same level in years to come?

Some people have retired with good pensions, whilst others of course have seen their perceived pensions fall by varying degrees. Younger people are being urged to pay increased amounts into pension schemes from early on in their working lives. Many of the pension schemes that gave people good pensions have disappeared, or are much less generous. I have to wonder if larger manufacturers have factored in that in future years pensions are forecast to be less than today's level...affecting their potential sales volumes.

The price increases in the Farish range have become quite noticeable. I wonder if the increases need to be as large as they are, or whether their accountants have had a hand in the level of increase to compensate for an envisaged loss in future sales volumes?    Just a thought...

(sorry if this is moving away from the original posting of wish list 2015, but I sometimes cannot find the tab for a starting a new topic)

Can people consider voting for the industrial diesel and steam 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 options please? Ideal for private sidings in themselves if ever produced, and we need these good chassis variants for those who like to kit build and scratch build 'off-piste'!

EtchedPixels

The Farish 03/04 chassis is pretty much correct for most of the Rustons. For little 0-4-0 chassis see N drive productions or some of the tiny Japanese ones. There are quite a few options right down to something like a 48DS - although at that point couplings and finding somewhere to put the weight become the big issues.

You can't have too many options. A decent 0-4-0 chassis (with rods) would be good for N and 009 wouldn't it? The Japanese chassis I have has no rods which limits prototypes, and is a little faster off the mark than is ideal.

With not a lot of days to go can I just put in a plea.

Manufacturers get a view of the relative size of the N and OO demand from the relative number of votes in each scale.

Yes, they have their sales figures as a reliable source, but do suffer a little from a nagging feeling that N-gauge modellers might just be buying their competitors' products rather than their own.  We can help reinforce that nagging feeling by voting rather than leaving it to someone else.......

Just a thought.

Asking folk to vote for specific items seems a little misguided to me, if folk really just do vote for stuff because they've been asked to it will artificially inflate the apparent market for that item. If a manufacturer were to produce an item on the strength of these apparent 'expressions of interest' and it flopped I suspect they'd be reticent to continue.

I know it's purely a bit of market research, but still...

Strangely - as far as diesels are concerned - it would probably pay Grafar to ignore the wishlist poll. A later body--style Class 25/3 would probably be a safe bet as an all round seller, and not need a full chassis re-design.

Although certainly too late to have included on the wish-list poll following recent cancellation of the latest batch (so no fault of the compilers here) the "peaks" could do with a re-vamp and be made available DCC ready.

Altogether diesel modellers are better catered for than ever in N. The only main classes not announced now are Class 15, 28 and the 21/29. Hopefully with the latter the kickstarter project will reap some success, and wish all concerned luck with this project.

Regards,
Paul

The Peaks have a problem and have been pulled from production.. Don't know why though.

I also messaged Brian Macdermott about the 25/3 being missing and he has assured me it will be there next year...
